MATCH REPORT

SUTTON COLDFIELD 5 RUGBY 3

Not enough in the end to get 3rd, with Coventry Cherry Tree winning 8-0 on the same night, but we did get 4th due to Hall Green's final week defeat at Leamington. A great season for us all in all.

Barrie Linnecor (20.04) 3 Paul Bodsworth (15.82) 0

Baz took the first in 19 but found it tough finishing in the next 2 against a player who was clearly out of sorts on the night. 2 tons for Baz but the winning start so important. 1-0 Sutton.

Chris Millward (24.49) 3 Carl Green (21.35) 1

Close first 3 legs, Milly took the 1st in 23, Carl levelled in 24 darts, and Milly regained the lead in 23. The 4th leg a different story with Milly out in 14 darts (140, 100, 60, 137, 64 out). 6 tons for Milly who was Sutton MOM. 2-0 Sutton.

Ian Scattergood (19.37) 0 Ricky Reid (23.48) 3

Scat ran into a very capable opponent in Ricky who took the games in 21,20 & 23 darts. 2-1 Sutton.

Mark Kane (21.62) 0 Matt Edgar (24.64) 3

Kaney is entitled to an off-night after the season he has had, but his opponent Matt (Rugby MOM) played exceptionally well, out in 24, 17 & 20, including a 180. This lad has future County player written all over him. 2-2 on the night.

John Kavanagh (20.35) 1 Chris Morgan (22.02) 3

Chris took the first with darts in 19, JK the 2nd in 23, and Chris again in 24. However, JK missed 5 at a double to let in Chris for the 4th leg in 22. 3-2 to Rugby.

Mark Wild (21.78) 3 Rab Palmer (18.71) 0

Not the Wildy we saw a couple of weeks ago but games in 21, 24 & 24 enough to win comfortably. 4 tons for Wildy. 3-3 on the night.

Rob Hawker (23.86) 3 Terry James (20.95) 0

Rob never looking in trouble and scoring 2 x 180's in the match. 1st leg in 18, but took 9 darts to find his a double in the 2nd. 3rd leg was business as usual with a great 13 dart game (180, 100, 100, 97, 24 out). 5 tons & 2 x 180's for Pikey. 4-3 Sutton.

Steve Paling (21.69) 3 No Player 0

Steve played out his average with no official opponent as Rugby were short, playing steadily with 3 tons in those 3 legs. Sutton 5 Rugby 3.

The Sutton Coldfield tons tally really said it all 25+2! That's about half our average, and its fair to say we were not firing as a team.

In the end it mattered not as Coventry Cherry won 8-0, which meant even an 8-0 win for us would have seen us fall short
by a point.

We have to look on the season as a whole as a very successful one though, 4th in the league and mixing it with teams rammed with County players. We have beaten Cherry Tree twice, Tamworth twice, as well as Hall Green along the way and drawn at Coventry Cherry Tree.

We also had Pikey finishing either 1st or 2nd in the league averages depending on Nigel Heydon's average against Hall Green, Kaney playing some great stuff to surely give him a possible shout for a County A place next season (along with Pikey), Wildy playing some of his best ever Super League darts, and Chris Millward adapting to this format so well in the 2nd half that it would be criminal if he wasn't on the short list for County at the start of next season.

It does perhaps give us a lot to look forward to next season.
