MATCH REPORT

Sutton Coldfield 4 Coventry Railway 4

What a difference a week makes. After a great away win last week, and a running team average of 24.00, we followed it up with only a draw at home with our worst running average of the season, just 21.03.

Kevin Shorthouse (19.49) 0 Scott Rand (23.12) 3

3 tons and a 180 for Kev, who didn't get a sniff in the first 2 legs. Had his chances in the 3rd though, against a player highly rated in the Coventry leagues. 1-0 Railway.

Rob Hawker (24.55) 3 Andy Rollason (19.16) 1

Rob out in 15, 20 & 24 and Sutton's MOM. First leg was 100,100,100, 83, 118 finish. 10 tons in all for Rob, who was one of those whose game held up on the night. All square at 1-1.

Steve Paling (19.35) 0 Mark Westgarth (18.56) 3

Steve knows the chances were there in every leg, missing 16 darts at doubles altogether. 5 tons for Steve against the former County player, who hit the only 180 for his side. 2-1 to the Railway.

John Kavanagh (20.77) 3 Shaun Hackett (18.83) 1

JK out in 29,23 & 17 and scoring 6 tons. Reasonably comfortable win on the night after a poor first leg. 2-2 now the match score.

Mark Wild (21.47) 3 Chris Graham (17.94) 0

Spidey out in 25, 23 & 22 darts, with 6 tons and a 180. Never looked in trouble though not nearly as impressive as he was last
week at the Cherry Tree. 3-2 to Sutton.

Barrie Linnecor (20.86) 2 Tony Nolan (21.94) 3

This was always going to be a close one. Baz was 2-1 up in 20 & 24 darts, though could have already won at this stage having missed 7 at a double in leg 1. Tony took the 4th in 20 darts. The final leg was close with Baz having 4 darts at a double before Tony clocked out at his 2nd attempt. 4 tons for Baz. 3-3 on the night.

Mark Kane (24.17) 3 Paul Beverley (21.25) 1

Coke out in 19, 24 & 17 though his opponent could have made it 2-2 but for bad finishing in the 1st leg. 5 tons scored and Coke threw a great 4th leg to win the game.

Tony Lewis (17.55) 1 Darren Swords (20.82) 3

First game of the season for Tony and faced a tough opponent in Daz. 3 tons for Tony who had shots to finish in all the first 3 legs.

MOM's Pikey for us and Scott Rand for the Railway.

Team averages were Sutton 21.03, Coventry 20.20.
Tons were Sutton 42+2, Coventry 39+1.

A draw was about fair on the night, though we certainly looked the more likely side to win it. We will need an improved performance at leaders, Leamington, in the next game. They warmed up for that game with a 7-1 thumping of 4th placed Coventry Cherry Tree. As 5th placed Hall Green drew 4-4 with Ansty Social, the good news is we have lost no ground to the teams just behind us.
