MATCH REPORT:

COVENTRY CHERRY TREE 4 SUTTON COLDFIELD 4

A well earned point in the end with a great comeback from 4-1 down, but it typifies the spirit in the side, and means that with most teams having only 2 games left we are still in the race for 3rd place.

Paul Livingstone (23.86) 3 Steve Paling (19.25) 0

A chance in the first for Block, but Paul Livvy played very steadily, out in 20, 21 & 22 for 3-0. Steve just needs that bit of luck and his confidence will be back to where it was at the start of the season. 2 tons for Block, 5 for Paul. 1-0 Cov Cherry.

Paul Deslandes (20.88 ) 3 John Kavanagh (18.45) 0

JK not in the 1st leg at all, but missed 13 at a double to level up in the 2nd contributing to lowest average in 2 yrs. Paul deserving his win with 18 darts in the 3rd with JK sat on tops after 15. JK 4 tons, Paul also 4. 2-0 Cov Cherry.

Mark Carter (22.53) 2 Rob Hawker (28.71) 3

Needed to get back into the game, and Pikey came up with a great MOM display winning his games with throw in 16, 18 & 13 darts. Mark took his 2 with throw in 21 & 24. 12 tons and 2 x 180 for Pikey, 7 tons and 1 x 180 for Mark. 2-1 Cov Cherry.

Noel Grant (31.31) 3 Mark Wild (25.58 ) 0

Tails up back in the game and in-form Wildy up next but what a performance (again) by Noel. Out in 20, 15 & 13. Wildy doing nothing wrong but only 1 dart at a double in the match. That's 5 25+ averages in a row for Wildy and 7 of the last 8 are 24+. 7 tons for Wildy, 8 for Noel. 3-1 Cov Cherry.

Dave Crossingham (23.48 ) 3 Dave Wallace (20.67) 0

Difficult draw for Affro in his first game for some time. Affro had his chances though in legs 2 & 3, but Dave C scored relentlessly with 8 tons in his 3 legs. 3 tons for Affro, but his game was certainly starting to flow by leg 3. Good to have Affro back for the difficult run-in. 4-1 Cov Cherry.

Lance Thompson (19.96) 1 Barrie Linnecor (20.64) 3

Looking down the barrel at 4-1 but Baz always capable of grinding out a result in these type of games, and he did just that. Out in 25, 22 & 26 with Lance taking the 2nd in 21. 4 tons for Baz, 3 for Lance. 4-2 Cov Cherry and still in the game.

Steve Giddings (18.67) 0 Mark Kane (23.12) 3

If ever you want a player up next in these circumstances its 'Coke'. He didn't disappoint going out in 19, 20 & 26 to take it to the last game. 4 tons and a 180 for Coke, 3 tons for Steve. 4-3 Cov Cherry.

Mark Sidgwick (26.55) 1 Chris Millward (27.57) 3

Contest of the night really, Sidgy took the 1st in 16 darts, but Milly kicked in and took the next 3 in 19, 18 & 18. 8 tons for Milly who has now really got to grips with this format, and 6 tons and a 180 for Sidgy. 4-4.

We have to be happy with a point in the game. Some of the averages were well below expectations, whilst others were excellent. Tons were below normal levels but both sides knew the importance of the game and it was an edgy one.

Always a good bunch at Cov Cherry and have a laugh regardless of the result.

Running averages: Cov Cherry 23.41, Sutton 23.00

Tons: Cov Cherry 44+2, Sutton 44+3.

The league situation for 3rd is as follows:

Cov Cherry (played 20, 119 pts), Hall Green (pld 20, 116 pts), Sutton Coldfield (Pld 19, 113 pts), Ansty (Pld 20, 110 pts). With 2 pts for a win and a point for every game won it couldn't be much closer.
