MATCH REPORT
Cherry Tree 2 Sutton Coldfield 6
Well what a start to the new year! It was 2nd v 3rd and on arrival we looked for their weak link. Unfortunately there wasn't one, the side was full of county players. However, we had been the only side to beat them so far this season so we were always going to have a go, and after a great start ended up completing a very impressive double over the Cherry Tree.
Paul Merrett (24.35) 0 Mark Kane (28.36) 3
Great win for 'Coke' out in 21, 14 & 18. It included 5 tons and 2 x 180's. A great start for Sutton. 1-0.
Tommy Ryan (24.11) 2 Chris Millward (24.80) 3
Chris was unlucky to lose 3-2 to Tommy in the first half, and gained revenge in another close game. 9 tons for Milly and out in 19, 19 & 21 darts. 2-0 Sutton.
Martin Brown (24.42) 1 Mark Wild (24.88 ) 3
Great win for 'Spidey' out in 20, 24 & 15. 5 tons and a 180 for Spidey. Martin also hit a 180 & 6 tons in a very tight game. 3-0 Sutton.
Tommy Dillon (20.56) 3 Steve Paling (17.14) 1
The game went with the darts for the first 3 legs, and Steve had shots to make it 2-2. Steve was better than the average suggests, hitting 4 tons. 3-1 Sutton.
Steve Hine (21.78) 3 John Kavanagh (21.10) 0
You don't expect many darts at doubles against the 'Muffin Man' but JK missed darts at doubles in every leg (16 darts missed in all). Steve missed 12 at doubles himself, hence the lower averages. 4 tons for JK. 3-2 Sutton.
Jaz Athwal (19.83) 0 Rob Hawker (32.67) 3
Nothing Jaz could do about Pikey here. Out in 16, 14 & 16 darts with 7 tons and 2 x 180's. You get the feeling Pikey wants his County A place back! 4-2 Sutton.
Brian Jones (23.05) 2 Kevin Shorthouse (19.87) 3
Fantastic win for Kev in 27, 21 & 21 in only his 7th Super league game against a player who has represented Warwickshire 55 times. As the averages suggest Kev was well beaten in the 2 legs he lost but he held his nerve when he had the darts and finished whenever he got a chance. Sutton 5-2 up.
Steve Patterson (23.63) 1 Barry Linnecor (23.16) 3
6 tons for Baz, and out in 19, 22 & 23 darts. Steve getting the top finish of the night in the leg he won (104). 6-2 Sutton.
Running averages were Cherry Tree 22.72, Sutton 24.00.
Tons were Cherry Tree 44+1, Sutton 46+5.
It was probably a good time to catch the Cherry Tree first game after Christmas before they get into their full stride, but a great away win for us.
You still have to back the Cherry Tree for a top two finish.
