MATCH REPORT
Sutton Coldfield 5 Nuneaton 3
A good result against
an ever-improving Nuneaton side.
Carl Perry (18.25) 0 Jim Young
Snr (23.12) 3
A bad draw again for Carl, first up against
Nuneaton's County B player Jim. Jim taking the 1st with the darts in 23 darts,
the second in 20 and the third in 22. Carl just need that bit of luck to go his
way. We know he will kick on from there, and with the Christmas break coming up,
lets hope he can get that bit of luck early in 2010. 3 tons for Carl, 4 tons for
Jim. 1-0 Nuneaton.
Chris Millward (19.78) 3 John Montgomery
(17.85) 0
Things are not going badly when you can keep winning
even when you are not at the top of your game, and Milly did just that. Milly
took an inconsistent 1st leg in 26 darts. He took a better second leg in 20, but
a low scoring 3rd leg was eventually won in 30 darts. Monty not really at the
races for Nuneaton in this one. Milly 6 tons, Monty 2 tons. 1-1 on the night.
Mark Kane (28.90) 3 James Young Jnr (22.14) 0
A great game from Kaney against one of the most promising young players
in the league. Kaney took the 1st in 19 darts, and followed it with 15 darts
(100,83,140,94,84f) for 2-0. He finished it off with an 18 dart 3rd leg
including a 105 shot out. Kaney 5 tons, James 3 tons. 2-1 Sutton.
Rob Hawker (31.98) 3 James Whittaker (25.14) 0
Just when Kaney was contemplating another MOM after his game, up stepped
Pikey. He started with 14 darts (46, 135, 121, 140, 59f) with his opponent John
sat on 69 after 12 having hit a 180 in the leg. Pikey followed up with an 18
dart 2nd leg for 2-0. The 3rd leg went in 15 darts for a deserved MOM
(41,140,140,100,80f) which was tough on John who really did nothing wrong but
never got a shot at a double in the match. Rob 7 tons, John 3 tons and a 180.
3-1 Sutton.
John Kavanagh (18.50) 3 Gary Jackson (18.90)
1
JK started ok, 1st leg in 21 darts against the throw. JK then
2-0 up in 24. Gary took the 3rd in 24 for 2-1. A bizarre 4th leg dragged the
averages down, JK starting 140,100 but then seeing the wheels come well and
truly off with both players chasing doubles before JK won a 'painful' 37 dart
leg. JK 5 tons, Gary 4 tons. 4-1 Sutton.
Paul Cumming
(20.90) 0 Shaun Turton (23.48) 3
Paul had a shot at tops before
losing the 1st in 24 darts. A good 2nd leg from Shaun put him 2 up in 19 darts.
Paul had a shot for a 114 finish but narrowly missed tops, letting Shaun in for
a 21 dart 3rd leg which included a maximum. Paul 5 tons, Shaun 8 tons and a 180.
4-2 Sutton.
Dane Vickers (22.21) 1 Adam Hancock (23.96)
3
You got the feeling that Dane was thinking too much about
this re-match with Adam who beat Dane last time with a 31+ average. Dane didn't
really get going in the first which Adam won in 23 darts. Dane ground out a win
in the 2nd in 23 darts, and two much better legs followed. Adam capitalised on
having the throw in leg 3 clocking 80 for 18 darts, with Dane handily placed to
finish. Dane had two darts to level in the 4th, before Adam took out 63 for
another 18 dart game and a 3-1 win along with the Nuneaton MOM. Dane 7 tons,
Adam 3 tons. 4-3 Sutton.
Mark Wild (22.77) 3 Adam Smithneale
(22.08) 0
Wildy was in exactly this position in our first
meeting with Nuneaton this season, last on with Sutton 4-3 up, and bizarrely the
same 4 players having won before him. On that occasion he lost 3-2, but you got
the feeling he wasn't going to let that happen twice. A 20 dart first leg put
him on his way. Both players had shots in the 2nd before Wildy took it in 25
darts for 2-0. In the 3rd 16 year old Adam played superbly leaving tops after 15
darts, but Wildy, with advantage of throw, only allowed him one go at that
before winning in 21 darts for 3-0. Wildy 5 tons, Adam 5 tons. Sutton the
winners by 5-3.
Tons were lower this week, Sutton 43, Nuneaton 32
(though again not many legs played - only 26 on the night).
Running averages
were Sutton 22.91 (many thanks to Pikey & Kaney there), Nuneaton 22.08.
The stats show the result to be about right, and whilst it probably was,
Nuneaton could feel they might have got a draw out of it on another night.
MOM's Rob Hakwer & Adam Hancock (as at Nuneaton earlier this
season).
This was the last game of 2009. After a slow start we have sort
of established ourselves in 5th place, and while the top 4 will be difficult to
overhaul, a 5th place finish would be a good season to follow our 4th last year,
so our main aim is to keep a little bit of daylight between us and the teams
just behind us.
Nuneaton are a top bunch of lads we are getting to know
quite well having met in pre-season friendlies a few times as well as in the
league. We have had 2 very close contests against them which is how it should
be. We wish them well for the rest of the season, and who knows might meet them
again at the KO cup.
