MATCH REPORT

SUTTON COLDFIELD 6 KENILWORTH 2

Sutton's opening game of the season was against the team we met in the first game last season, and again the game ended in a victory for Sutton this time 6-2. A mixture of some excellent games & some slow starters with a spattering of sloppy finishing, but in the end a good result.

CARL PERRY (20.93) 1 MARK BURBURY (20.96) 3

A tough draw for Carl playing his first game for Sutton and drawing out number 1. The first 3 legs went with throw leaving Carl 2-1 down, though Carl had finished confidently when clocking 81 in the 2nd leg. Carl missed tops for a chance to level in the 4th allowing Mark to finish 85 out and take the game 3-1. 4 tons were scored by each. 0-1 Kenilworth.

MARK WILD (25.95) 3 STEVE TIMLIN (24.68 ) 2

The first 4 legs going with throw in a real dart for dart game. Wildy won the 1st in 19 darts, Steve the 2nd in 21, Wildy back in front in 19 again, before Steve levelled up in 19 darts for 2-2. A cracking 5th leg saw Steve take the initiative starting 135, 100, 81, 85 to leave 100. Wildy responded with a 174 to leave 32. Steve hit the 60 but missed 2 for tops, leaving Wildy to take it 3-2 in 18 darts. 8 tons and a 174 for Wildy, 7 tons and a 180 for Steve. 1-1 now the match score.

JOHN KAVANAGH (22.24) 3 PETE FELLOWES (19.59) 1

JK took a scrappy first leg against the darts. The second leg brought double trouble, with JK missing a 102 out shot before missing a further 9 at a double. This let in Pete to level at 1-1. Seemed to be the necessary wake up call though, with JK taking the next 2 legs in 14 & 19 darts for 3-1. 6 tons for JK, 5 for Pete. 2-1 now to Sutton.

ROB HAWKER (22.77) 3 MICK KERRY (16.62) 0

Rob went off in usual form leaving 78 after just 12 darts, yet double trouble hit us again as it took an unbelievable 16 darts at a double for Pikey to nail that 1st leg. Business as usual after that blip taking the next 2 in 17 & 19 darts for a comfortable 3-0 win. 6 tons for Rob, 2 for Mick. Sutton 3-1 up on the night.

CHRIS MILLWARD (19.27) 3 DAVE GREEN JNR (16.65) 0

Not one of Milly's best, but having just returned from holiday and a bout of illness the most important thing we needed was the result and Milly won comfortably enough in the end. 3 tons for Milly and 2 for Dave, and crucially Sutton now could not lose. 4-1 to Sutton.

DANE VICKERS (20.83) 3 JOHN PHILPOT (19.97) 1

Another debutant, and the 'Pup' did the business. Almost let the 1st leg slip after going for the wrong shot when he thought his previous dart had hit tops, but was out. Took it coolly next time round, and followed it with a 17 dart game against the darts for 2-0 (100, 137, 100, 96, 52, 16 out). Dane was cruising towards a 3-0 before he also hit double trouble missing with 7 darts. John pulled the leg back, but Dane dug in to take it 3-1 in the 4th. 6 tons for Dane, 4 for John. 5-1 to Sutton and the points were won.

PAUL CUMMING (26.65) 0 MARTIN TONKS (26.84) 3

An absolute cracker, and Paul on debut so unlucky to come out of it losing 3-0. Paul started 80, 100, 125, 140 to leave 56 after 12. Unfortunately Martin had the darts in that leg. He had gone 180, 28, 131, 88 to leave 74 and he clocked that for 1-0 in 15 darts. Martin took the 2nd in 21, but the 3rd looked Paul's all the way sat on 16 after 15 darts. However, he missed 3 at 16 letting in Martin for an excellent 3-0 win and the Kenilworth MOM award. 6 tons to Paul, 4 tons and a 180 to Martin. 5-2 now to Sutton.

MARK KANE (30.67) 3 TIM CORK (25.33) 0

Kaney has a habit of nicking the MOM when he plays last, and so it was again. A steady 1st leg in 19 darts was followed by a cracking 13 dart game (121, 140, 100, 100, 40 out) for 2-0. Kaney then followed up with a further 2 x 140 and 1 x 100 in his 3rd leg going out in 17 for 3-0. Tim played well, but could do little to stop Kaney in this form. 8 tons for Kaney, 4 tons for Tim. 6-2 the final score.

Its always nice to start with a win and we are now up and running. There will be some very tough games ahead. All teams in this league will beat you if you don't perform. Kenilworth themselves finished bottom last year but still dumped us out of the KO Cup.

A top bunch the Kenilworth lads and we wish them well for the rest of the season.

Next up are Nuneaton away on Thursday 10th September who we know very well, having played them in a friendly only last week.
