MATCH REPORT

SUTTON COLDFIELD 2 COVENTRY CHERRY TREE 6

We don't have a great record against Coventry Cherry Tree in Superleague even though we pushed them close for 3rd place last season. It turned out to be another 'one of those nights' for us.

Mark Kane (23.70) 1 Mark Sidgwick (23.80) 3

Kaney started well and had two darts at tops for 1-0 against the darts but missed out with Sidgy out in 20 darts. Kaney looked good to level but missed 8 at a double in the 2nd to go 2 down. The 3rd leg was vintage Kaney out in 15 darts with a cracking 132 finish (Bull, bull, double 16). The 4th saw Sidgy sat on 24 and Kaney wanting 100. He knew he had to finish but left tops and Sidgy went out in 19 darts for 3-1. 9 tons for Kaney, 5 for Sidgy. 1-0 to Coventry.

Mark Wild (25.26) 3 Mark Carter (24.17) 2

Wildy was staring down the barrel at 2-0 down with Mark Carter out in 21 & 23 darts. Wildy pulled the 3rd back in 17 darts including a 180, and levelled it 2-2 in 21 darts in the 4th. A cracking 5th leg saw Wildy leave tops after 15, Mark Carter leave 32 after his 15 and Wildy took it next dart for an excellent 3-2 win. 7 tons and a 180 for Wildy (Sutton's MOM), 11 tons for Mark Carter. 1-1 the match score.

Rob Hawker (25.03) 3 Neil Pritchard (23.87) 1

Rob well in control when sat on 44 after 15 darts in the first but finishing let him down and the 'Big Fella' clocked 72 for 1-0. No more slips though as Pikey took the next 3 in 18, 17 & 21 darts to put Sutton ahead on the night. 10 tons for Rob, 4 tons for Neil. Sutton 2 Coventry 1

Carl Perry (24.21) 2 Steve Giddings (24.96) 3

An excellent game. Carl, playing in only his 2nd Super league game, took the first in 21 darts. Steve levelled up in 22 with Carl sat on tops. Steve then went ahead with an 18 dart 3rd leg, before Carl squared things back up in 20. Carl then agonisingly missed double 16 for a 111 finish in the 5th which allowed Steve to take the leg and the game 3-2. An impressive 12 tons for Carl, 6 tons for Steve who was Cov Cherry's MOM. 2-2 overall.

Dave Wallace (22.22) 2 Paul Deslandes (23.02) 3

Paul took the 1st leg here in 21 with a 108 finish, but Dave levelled in the second, also in 21 darts. In the 3rd leg both players couldn't find the big score to pull away but Dave held on to take it for a 2-1 lead. Paul came back in the 4th in 19 darts and we went to another deciding leg. Again it went to the visitors with Paul out in 20 darts, clocking 82. A great effort by Dave though, who was well short of match practice going into this one, his first game of the season. 3 tons for Dave, 10 for Paul. 3-2 now to Coventry.

Chris Millward (21.38) 0 Noel Grant (24.64) 3

Always going to be a big ask for Milly against Noel who has been in excellent form for a few seasons now both at Superleague and County A level. Noel took it in 18, 19 & 24 darts, with Milly having chances at his favourite double top in both legs 1 & 3. 5 tons for Milly, 4 for Noel. Coventry now 4-2 up.

John Kavanagh (19.41) 0 Dave Harris Jnr (21.78) 3

A very disappointing game. It was always going to be important to win a poor 1st leg, and it went to Dave. The County A lad picked up from there a little with a 21 dart 2nd leg, with JK left on 32, and 21 darts again in the 3rd for a comfortable win. 3 tons for JK, 2 for Dave. 5-2 to Coventry and game over.

Dane Vickers (19.92) 0 Dave Crossingham (23.48) 3

A tough game for Dane to motivate himself with the match lost, it was not one of his best. Dave playing well though taking the first in 22 darts & the 2nd leg in 17 including a maximum. Dave took the 3rd in 25 darts, but it could have been 7 darts earlier. Better finishing in that one might have got him the MOM award. 2 tons for Dane and 7 tons and a 180 for Dave. Final score 6-2.

Sutton 51 + 1 tons, Coventry 49 + 1.

Running averages Sutton 22.64, Coventry 23.72.

Coventry Cherry Tree deserved their win as their superior finishing stood out on the night. A good bunch of lads who are always a tough side to beat.

Next up is Coventry Railway away next week. We will need an improved performance thats for sure.
