MATCH REPORT

SUTTON COLDFIELD 4 CHERRY TREE 4

A delayed start with most of the opposition stuck in traffic, so games played out of order with Cherry Tree's 2 punctual arrivals Scott Mitton & Martin Brown playing 1 & 2.

This was always going to be a tough one with Cherry Tree unbeaten this season. Games in order games were played were:

John Kavanagh (20.12) 0 Scott Mitton (26.47) 3

Drawn as game 2 but played as 1, Scott took the 1st in 18 darts. The 2nd was a poor leg both sides with Scott taking that in 26. Scott played a much better 3rd leg, with the leg of the night in 13 darts (100, 60, 180, 137, double 12). JK 2 tons, Scott 6 and a 180. 1-0 Cherry Tree.

Chris Millward (21.45) 3 Martin Brown (22.14) 2

Drawn as game 6, Milly took the 1st in 19, but Martin recovered taking the next 2 in 24 & 25. Milly levelled in 23, and looked out of it in the 5th with Martin sat on 80 after 12 and Milly on 279. Scores of 101 and 124 put Milly back in it, and with Martin missing doubles he clocked the 54 for 21 darts. 9 tons for Milly, 8 for Martin. 1-1 the match score.

Mark Wild (20.11) 3 Brian Jones (19.72) 1

Game 3 on the night but drawn 1, and both players are much better than the averages on the night suggest. A vital win though, from a team point of view. Wildy winning in 28,24 & 22 darts, Brian, who in fairness had just got in after 45 minutes stuck on the Chester Road taking leg 3 in 23 darts. 3 tons for Wildy, 5 for Brian. 2-1 to Sutton.

Rob Hawker (28.36) 3 Steve Crowther (14.96) 0

Drawn as game 3 but played 4, Pikey was in great nick. 1st leg in 20 darts, then out in 15 (100, 100, 100, 140, 61f). Pikey then hit a further 4 tons in an 18 dart 3rd leg for a comfortable 3-0 win and the Sutton MOM. Pikey 9 tons. Sutton 3-1 up.

Mark Kane (26.40) 1 Jaz Athwal (29.47) 3

Drawn game 4 but played 5, and the match of the night. Kaney took the 1st in 17 including a 180, with Jaz sat on 36 after 15. The 2nd leg saw Jaz out in 16, but missing 26 for what would have been 13 darts. Jaz took the 3rd in 15 (100, 121, 125, 99, 56f) against the darts with Kaney handily placed. Both players played steadily in the 4th, but neither hit the big score to pull away from their opponent. Jaz took advantage of having the darts and clocked the 72 required for a 21 dart game and the Cherry Tree MOM. Kaney 6 tons & A 180, Jaz 10 tons. 3-2 Sutton.

Paul Cumming (25.71) 3 Tommy Ryan (23.31) 1

Drawn game 5 but played at 6, and a great win for Paul against a good County A opponent. Paul hit 3 x 140's in a 15 dart 1st leg against the darts. Tommy bounced back to level in 20. Paul regained the lead clocking 86 for 18 darts in the 3rd, and held his throw in the 4th in 23 darts for a 3-1 win. 7 tons to Paul, 5 to Tommy. 4-2 to Sutton.

Dane Vickers (24.03) 1 Steve Patterson (24.16) 3

Dane won the first in 25 with neither player finding their best. The 2nd was much improved with Dane hitting 3 tons including a 105 to leave tops after 15 darts. Steve clocked the 96 though for 18 darts including a 180 and it was 1-1. Steve then took the 3rd in 17 darts with Dane, having started the leg with a 180, sat on 47. Dane had chances in the 4th before Steve took it in 22 darts for a 3-1 win. Dane 7 tons and a 180, Steve 5 tons ands a 180. 4-3 to Sutton.

Dave Wallace (20.35) 1 Ricky Frisby (21.86) 3

Dave started well 1-0 up in 20 and including a 180. Ricky took the 2nd in 18, but was unlucky hitting 25 when going for the bull for a 167 finish for 15 darts the throw before. Ricky took the 3rd in 22 to lead 2-1 but the last leg of the night proved to be the longest with both players missing chances in a nervy finish. Ricky eventually took out double 7 for 30 darts. 6 tons for Dave, 3 for Ricky. A 4-4 draw the result.

We certainly had our chances to win the game, but will take the positives from holding this unbeaten Cherry Tree side to what was at the very least a deserved draw. Some big plusses for us. Paul Cumming is now settled in and playing like we all know he can. Dane continues to play with no fear in this league, and another good performance from him even in defeat. Milly did magnificently well in the circumstances to grind out a win against Martin Brown the way he did. He hasn't played for a while due to serious family issues. The team all wish his sister well in her recovery. Our best wishes go to the whole family.

Tons were Sutton 49+3, Cherry Tree 42+2.
Running averages Sutton 23.32, Cherry Tree 22.74.

Two more home games to come next. Re-arranged game against Rugby next week, then we play Leamington the league leaders the week after.
