MATCH REPORT

Sutton Coldfield 3 Coventry Bishopsgate 5

It was another disappointing result in what has been a poor second half of the season. On the night games 2 & 5 were switched around which meant the away side had the darts in the first 3 games played on the night.

John Kavanagh (19.72) 0 Kevin Wragg (20.59) 3

A slow 1st leg culminated in JK missing double 16 for a 102 out shot. Both players missed further darts at doubles in the leg, before Kevin finally took it in 29 darts. Kevin made it 2-0 in 24 darts, before a better 3rd leg saw Kevin miss double 16 for a 102 finish in 18 darts. JK then missed tops for a 125 finish in 18, before Kevin closed the game out in 20. JK 2 tons, Kevin 4 tons. 1-0 Coventry.

James Owen (20.08) 2 Eric Simpson (18.98) 3

A poor 1st leg was won by Eric in 33 darts. Jay bounced back with a 16 dart 2nd leg (53, 91, 140, 139, 70, 8f) which matched his best leg of the season. Eric went back ahead 2-1 in 22 darts, but Jay levelled again taking out 50 for a 27 dart game. Jay looked set to take the last, getting down first by hitting 124 to leave 8, but missed 6 darts at a double. This allowed Eric to take out double top for 29 darts and a 3-2 win. Jay 5 tons, Eric 6 tons. Coventry 2-0 up.

Dane Vickers (20.18) 2 Steve Berrill (19.94) 3

Dane looked in good nick early on taking the first in 22 darts and the second in 23 darts for a 2-0 lead. Steve took the 3rd in 26 darts with Dane sat on 32. The 4th saw Dane miss tops for a 119 finish. Steve stepped in to level it at 2-2 in 27 darts. The 5th leg went dart for dart with Steve making his advantage of having the darts pay with a 25 dart leg. Dane 5 tons, Steve 5 tons. Coventry 3-0.

Mark Wild (22.42) 3 Steve Pinch (23.39) 2

Again Sutton gained the early advantage with Mark taking the 1st leg in 24 darts, and the second in 23 darts. Steve fought back taking out 66 for a 21 dart 3rd leg. Steve then levelled at 2-2 in 17 darts with a 70 finish. Mark raised the bar in the decide though and in the end took it comfortably in 18 darts for Sutton’s first win of the night. Mark 4 tons, Steve 7 tons. Coventry 3-1.

Barrie Linnecor (24.12) 0 John Sanders (25.47) 3

An excellent game which deserved a closer scoreline. Barrie missed double 16 for a 111 finish in the first, but John took out 56 for a 17 dart leg to ensure he never got a second chance. Baz was down first again in the 2nd leg but missed 3 at a double to let John in again for a 23 dart game and 2-0. Baz had shots at a double again in the 3rd, but John finished clinically for 19 darts and 3-0, also taking the Bishopsgate MOM. Barrie 5 tons, John 5 tons. Coventry 4-1.

Chris Millward (24.60) 3 Will Roberts (20.64) 2

Will took the first against the throw in 23 darts, but a better 2nd leg saw Milly level in 20 darts. Milly looked even better in the 3rd leg, taking it in 17 darts with a 78 finish. Will then won a very tight 4th leg in 20 darts for 2-2. Milly, however, took the decider relatively comfortably in 20 darts for a 3-2 win. Milly 8 tons, Will 4 tons. Coventry 4-2.

Rob Hawker (26.37) 3 Josh Jones (26.06) 2

It was billed as the game of the night before the start and lived up to it with a tremendous battle between the County players of Warwickshire and Leicestershire respectively. Josh went one up in 17 darts, but Pikey levelled at 1-1 in 19 darts. Another 17 dart game saw Josh re-take the lead, but Pikey matched it out in 17 darts in the 4th leg for 2-2 including the nights only 180. Josh started with the advantage of throw in the 5th and began 100, 140 which gave him a big lead early on as Pikey started only 43, 60. Pikey found his range though and 100, 140, 100 left him on 58. Josh still had 3 darts from 68, but missed and Pikey wrapped it up with another 17 dart game and took the Sutton MOM. Pikey 10 tons and a 180, Josh 7 tons. Coventry 4-3 up.

Paul Cumming (17.16) 0 Shane West (20.31) 3

One of those nights when it just wouldn’t go for Paul. Shane went one up in 25 darts, then took the 2nd in 24 darts. Shane then took the 3rd in 25 darts with Paul sat on tops. Any other night 24 dart games would be no problem for Paul. Paul 2 tons, Shane 3 tons. Coventry winning 5-3.

Not a good quality game overall (with the exceptions of games played 5 &7). The tons count and averages were low but very close.

Tons: Sutton 41 +1, Coventry 41
Running Average: Sutton 21.83, Coventry 21.92

It is a shame to hear the Bish don’t believe they will have a side next season. They are a top bunch, and we will surely see a few of them playing somewhere in Super league next year.

Its been a tough season, where a few of our lads have just not done themselves justice. Hopefully we can turn that around next season.
