MATCH REPORT
Sutton Coldfield 4 Bartley Green 4
We just don't seem to perform as a team against Bartley Green, our away game being our worst running average of the season................until we played them at home. Rob Hawker was, however, in brilliant form and needed to be against Roger Kinsella who, himself, did little wrong whilst losing 3-0.
Bartley Green kindly switched games 1 & 3 to allow Chris Millward a few minutes to catch his breath after a late arrival.
Dane Vickers (23.46) 3 Tommy Hill (18.16) 0
Drawn 3, but played on game 1. Dane starting well, winning the first in 17 darts. The second could have gone either way with doubles missed but Dane took it in 26 darts. In the 3rd leg Dane was more comfortable, winning in 21 darts for 3-0. Dane 5 tons Tommy no tons. 1-0 Sutton.
Rob Hawker (29.47) 3 Roger Kinsella (25.56) 0
Definitely the game of the night. Pikey missing out on a 102 finish for 15 darts in the 1st, but he took it in 18. He took the second against the darts in 19, though Roger had a couple at a double himself. The 3rd was vintage Pikey (the Sutton MOM), 14 darts (135,140,100, 86, 40f) with Roger on 116 after 12 darts. Rob 6 tons, Roger 6 tons. 2-0 Sutton.
Chris Millward (17.48) 3 Keith Pemberton (16.51) 0
A horror show early on for Milly despite taking the first two legs, as they went in 30 & 32 darts! The 3rd was a little better in 24 darts, but not one to remember. Milly 2 tons, Keith 1 ton. 3-0 Sutton.
Mark Wild (21.36) 0 Dave Marsh (21.47) 3
Wildy down first in each leg but missed doubles letting Dave in each time. Dave took the first in 23 after Wildy had 6 darts from tops. Wildy was 200 ahead in the 2nd as he left 50, but again Dave came back to nick it in 26 darts. Wildy then had 2 at a double in the 3rd before Dave clocked 60 for 21 darts and 3-0. Wildy 2 tons, Dave 4 tons. 3-1 Sutton.
Marc Norton (20.14) 3 James Hykin (20.56) 1
Marc's first super league win of the season was to prove very valuable. He had to do it the hard way too, going 1-0 down in 18 darts. Marc bounced back to take the 2nd in 23, and this gave him the confidence to go on and take the next two in 25 & 27 darts with all legs very close. Marc 6 tons, James 3 tons. Sutton 4-1 up.
James Owen (18.54) 2 Martin Tibbetts (21.77) 3
James has looked impressive in recent weeks, but this was not one of his best. He went one up in 27 darts. Martin levelled in 28 darts and then went ahead in 18 darts. James dug in to level in 27 darts but could do little to stop Martin who went out in the decider in 14 darts (60, 55, 140, 180, 66f). James 3 tons, Martin 7 tons and a 180. 4-2 Sutton.
John Kavanagh (18.09) 0 Tom McGlone (22.43) 3
One to forget for JK. When your opponent starts 121, 100 and in between your first score is 9 it's probably not going to be your night! Tom took the first comfortably in 19 darts. Tom then went 2-0 up in 25 with JK on tops. The 3rd looked to be going Sutton's way with JK missing tops for a 120 finish in what would have been 15 darts. Poor finishing though let Tom in for 3-0 in 23 darts. JK 5 tons, Tom 7 tons. 4-3 Sutton.
Paul Cumming (19.39) 0 Mark Holyoake (25.91) 3
One Paul will also want to forget, not getting a shot at a double, yet Paul knows he is well capable of pushing the Bartley Green MOM all the way. Mark took the games in 18, 22, & 18 darts for a very impressive victory, and secured a draw for Bartley Green, which on balance was the least they deserved on the night. Paul 2 tons, Mark 7 tons plus a 180. 4-4 the final score.
So despite Pikey's great performance we managed our worst running average of the season, but the draw we got could have been worse, and who knows this point could turn out to be a good one when we assess the final standings at the end of the season.
Too many players were under par. Milly, JK and James all recording their lowest averages of the season, and Paul and Wildy not playing with the confidence and fluency they have earlier in the season. Plenty then for us to think about prior to the Rugby away game next week.
Make no mistake though, there were some very good experienced players in the Bartley Green side. Tom McGlone is still playing Warwickshire A, and surely if Mark Holyoake makes himself available he will be there again soon after a spell playing PDC. Dave Marsh has played County, and both Roger Kinsella and Martin TIbbetts showed just how good they can be at times on the night.
A big plus for Sutton though, was the announcement this week that both Rob Hawker & Mark Kane are named in the Warwickshire A team for the forthcoming fixture with Hampshire. Rob has certainly earned his place back with another excellent super league season, where once again the averages seem to be a two horse race between himself and Nigel Heydon of Leamington. For Kaney it is a first A team call up and is well deserved, having been knocking on the door for a couple of seasons now. Well done to both and good luck lads.
