MATCH REPORT

Sutton Coldfield 4 Coventry Railway 4

Only 2 points seperating the sides before the game, and this was still the case at the end, with a draw on the night about right. Each side had chances to win it though.

James Owen (19.90) 0 Darren Swords (20.59) 3

Both players are better than this performance, but it was Darren who found the doubles for a 3-0 win. Jay was on top in the first but missed 4 darts at doubles to let Darren in for a 25 dart game. Darren won a disappointing 2nd leg in 27 darts for 2-0. A much better 3rd leg saw Jay miss a shot for 15 darts, and then miss with a further 3 allowing Darren to clock 56 for 3-0 in 21 darts. Jay 3 tons, Darren 6 tons. 1-0 Cov Rail.

Paul Cumming (21.38) 3 Andy Rollason (21.14) 2

Each leg went with throw in a game that was anything but consistent on both sides. Paul took the 1st in 27 darts with neither player really finding their range. The second was much better, Andy out in 16 darts (55, 140, 100, 140, 58, 8f) with Paul himself on 70 after 15. The 3rd was about the finishing double, with Paul winning in 29 having 10 at a double. Andy himself had 7 darts to win the leg. Leg 4 saw disappointing scores on both sides before Andy levelled in 27 darts. Paul bounced back with a much better leg in the 5th out in 16 darts (100, 140, 85, 85, 71, 20f) for a vital 3-2 win. Paul 7 tons, Andy 7 tons. 1-1 the match score.

Barrie Linnecor (22.07) 2 Scott Rand (23.26) 3

Great to have Baz back in the fold making his first appearance of the season, and he almost capped it with a win against Scott who himself was MOM for Warwicks B last weekend, and was MOM in our meeting at Coventry earlier in the season. Both had chances to win the 1st with Baz finally nailing double 1 for 26 darts. Scott took the 2nd in 19 darts, but Baz went ahead again with a 17 dart leg in the 3rd. In the 4th Baz left tops after 16 darts but could just not get that double, Scott ultimately taking it with his first shot at a double in the leg for 23 darts. The 5th leg could have gone either way, Baz hitting 3 tons and having one dart at tops for 18 darts. Scott clocked 60 for a 20 dart game. A great performance from Baz though, who had not expected to play until just before the game. Baz 5 tons, Scott 4 tons. 2-1 Coventry.

Dane Vickers (19.16) 1 Paul Beverley (19.15) 3

Not the Dane we have seen in recent weeks, but he took the lead in 25 darts including a 177 score. Paul levelled with a 108 finish in 21 darts in the 2nd leg. Dane had a big chance in the next with 10 at a double before Paul took it in 30 darts. The 4th leg saw another chance for Dane with a couple of darts to win the leg, but he lost out to Paul in 28 darts. The averages of both players dragged down by missed doubles on the night. Dane 6 tons & a 177, Paul 8 tons. Coventry now 3-1 up.

Mark Wild (23.12) 3 Drew Meek (21.65) 0

A slow start from Wildy in leg 1 but he rescued it with an excellent 109 finish. The 2nd saw Wildy back on song starting with 100 and 2x 140's, and he finally closed out the leg in 20 darts. A steady 3rd leg culminating in a 64 check out for 21 darts completed a 3-0 win. Mark 5 tons. Drew 3 tons. 3-2 to Coventry.

Chris Millward (22.21) 1 Tony Nolan (25.79) 3

Tony won the Coventry MOM with a very consistent performance against Milly. Milly didn't get a shot in the first 2 legs with Tony out in 19 & 20 darts. Milly fought back in the 3rd hitting 132 to leave 32, which he took out for 19 darts. Tony, however, had the darts again in the 4th and sealed the win with another 19 dart game. Milly 6 tons, Tony 7 tons. 4-2 to Coventry.

Rob Hawker (25.47) 3 Shaun Hackett (21.91) 0 (Game 8 in the draw)

The visitors kindly allowed Rob to go on one early to enable him to catch his train, and he looked to be in a bit of a rush taking the first in 16 darts (85, 95, 41, 100, 140, 40f). A steady 2nd leg in 19 darts made it 2-0. There was a slow start to leg 3 but Pikey recovered with a couple of tons to take it in 24 darts for 3-0. Rob 6 tons, Shaun 1 ton. 4-3 Coventry.

Mark Kane (29.34) 3 Mark Westgarth (25.39) 1 (Game 7 in the draw)

A cracking game to finish with, and easily the game of the night. Kaney out in 15 darts in leg 1 (100, 180, 100, 57, 64f). Mark levelled with 3 tons in a 21 dart 2nd leg. Kaney went 2-1 up in 17 darts clocking 75 with Mark sat on 40. The 4th leg was even better Kaney out in 14 darts (140, 95, 100, 98, 68f) with Mark having hit 2 x 140's and sat on 120 after 12 darts. Kaney naturally taking the MOM for Sutton. Kaney 9 tons and a 180, Mark 6 tons. MATCH DRAWN 4-4.

A good comeback, but we certainly deserved a draw overall.

Running averages Sutton 22.83, Coventry 22.36.
Tons Sutton 47+2, Coventry 42.

Good news for us, the return of Baz who will add not only to the quality of the players available, but also to the support that has at times been a bit quiet this season. Also good to see Paul back to winning ways. Kaney & Pikey just continue to play at the very high standards they have set themselves.

Next up it is Hall Green away (in 3 weeks). A very tough game in prospect with a couple of the Fox Inn lads (Kirk & Tom), as well as our own Tuesday team mate Lee Harris amongst the opposition.
