MATCH REPORT
Chris Millward (20.65) 0 Noel Grant (26.37) 3
A couple of tons from Milly and he maybe should have had the first but Noel showed why he is County A (out in 22, 17 & 18 darts). A 180 for Noel. About time Milly got a break and didn't get drawn on one so often.
Mark Wild (22.77) 2 Steve Giddings (23.82) 3
A real close game, Wildy one-up then 2-1 down. He then clocked 80 for 2-2, only to lose out in the decider missing 2 darts at a double. Wildy out in 21 & 18. 7 tons for Wildy.
Ian Scattergood (20.73) 2 Lance Thompson (20.62) 3
Deja vu. Scat one up, then 2-1 down. Levelled the 4th, but had 5 darts to finish off Lance before he nicked the last. Out in 22 & 33. 5 tons for Scat. Great to see him back in the league.
John Kavanagh (20.70) 3 Andy McWilliams (21.70) 2
All legs going with throw in this one. JK winning legs in 19, 23 & 18, and scoring 6 tons plus a 180.
Kevin Shorthouse (24.65) 0 Mark Carter (28.36) 3
Great performance on debut from Kev despite the defeat against Cov's MOM. 5 tons from Kev and he managed to bust 120 in the second or his average would have been even better.
Barrie Linnecor (21.60) 1 Paul Deslandes (21.84) 3
Great first leg from Baz with a 160 finish, but 6 missed darts at a double in the 2nd allowed Paul back into it. Exactly as in earlier games (eg. Wildy, Scat, JK) the Cov lad having been allowed back into the game in leg 2 improved after his confidence boost and a game that might have been a routine win for the Sutton player up until that point was suddenly in the balance again. Paul took the next 2 in 18 & 21. 6 tons for Baz.
Steve Paling (21.25) 2 Dave Crossingham (20.12) 3
This time Steve went one down but battled back to 2-1 up (23 & 21 darts), only for missed doubles to cost him the last 2 legs (2 darts in the 4th & 6 in the decider). 11 tons and a 180 for Steve and only 4 tons for his victorious opponent. That sums up the sort of night we were having.
Rob Hawker (27.33) 3 Mark Sidgwick (25.88 ) 0
Rob again claimed Sutton MOM award. Could easily have been 30+ average but for missed doubles. 6 tons and 2 x 180 for Rob.Out in 20, 15 & 20 darts. However those two 20 dart games included 13 darts at doubles.
All in all felt we were better than 6-2 losers and 4-4 would have been a fairer reflection. When you consider all 8 of the opposition have played County and we are still gutted not to take the points it emphasises that we are still doing OK for a team with limited County experience in the squad.
