MATCH REPORT

SHARD END 1 SUTTON COLDFIELD 7

An excellent result against our local rivals, who themselves are a much better side than their averages in this match suggest. Something that could also be said of us on several occasions this season. This was though a much better team performance from Sutton.

Carl Winters (19.51) 2 Dave Wallace (20.16) 3

Dave, suffering from a heavy cold and having just got married on Saturday, started badly and was off the pace in the 1st leg which Carl won in 24 darts. Carl also took a much better 2nd leg in 19 darts. Dave dug in though to take the 3rd in 21 darts, clocking 80, and then levelled in the 4th in 26 darts despite a few missed doubles. Dave then took the decider in 22 darts for a great comeback and a 3-2 success. Dave 7 tons, Carl 4 tons. 1-0 to Sutton.

Matt Gallett (20.88) 0 Mark Kane (25.05) 3

Kaney started in great form leaving 40 after 12 darts (60, 180, 140, 81), but missed doubles meant he finally won it in 25 darts. No messing after that though winning the next two in 17 & 18 darts, with a 120 finish to close the game out. It would have been a 30+ if the first leg had been finished quickly, but a great win all the same against young PDC player, Matt. 8 tons and a 180 for Kaney, 5 tons for Matt. 2-0 Sutton.

Brendan Lysaght (18.33) 0 John Kavanagh (24.64) 3

First leg in 17 darts for JK, but in the second, despite a 180, a few missed doubles meant a 26 dart leg. A better 3rd leg with JK closing it out in 18 darts for 3-0, and a win to stop the personal rot of the last couple of weeks. JK 4 tons and a 180, Brendan 2 tons. 3-0 to Sutton.

Tony Commerford (19.22) 1 Paul Cumming (23.38) 3

Paul starting well scoring a 174 in a 17 dart 1st leg. Tony levelled though in 22 darts for 1-1. Paul ground out the 3rd in 25 darts before kicking on in the 4th where an 82 finish closed out the match in 18 darts. 5 tons and a 174 for Paul, 4 tons for Tony. 4-0 to Sutton.

John Frost (22.43) 2 Dane Vickers (22.50) 3

It looked like missed doubles would cost Dane in the 1st leg but he finally took it in 27 after 8 at a double. John took the 2nd in 24, and then went ahead with a 17 dart leg that included a 180. Dane pulled out a brilliant 16 dart game to level at 2-2 which included 2 x 140's, and hit another 140 in the nervy 5th leg, wrapping up a 3-2 win in 27 darts. 9 tons for Dane, 8 for John. 5-0 to Sutton.

Mark Birch (24.47) 1 Mark Wild (24.00) 3

Yet another tough game for Wildy this season, and again he pulled off an impressive win. He lost the 1st in 21 darts, but hit 4 ton plusses in a cracking 16 dart 2nd leg. Wildy then took the next two in 21 & 20 darts each time with his opponent sat on tops. 8 tons for Wildy, 5 for Mark Birch. 6-0 to Sutton.

Ian McFarlane (22.61) 3 Marc Norton (20.25) 2

What a story this nearly was. Marc turned up to watch, but with Milly, Carl & Glenn missing, and Tony injured he got thrown in at the deep end against PDC and County player, Ian. In the 1st leg, with borrowed darts, Marc clocked out a superb 155 for a 24 dart game. Macca levelled in 24, and then won a much better 3rd leg in 18 darts. Marc dug in to level at 2-2 in 26 darts, and had 3 darts from 56 to win the match before Ian checked out in 20 darts for Shard End's only win and their MOM award. Marc 5 tons, Ian 7 tons. 6-1 to Sutton.

Adam Gallett (18.33) 0 Rob Hawker (27.83) 3

A steady start saw Rob take the 1st in 19 darts. He then followed up with the best leg of the night in 15 darts (140, 100, 60, 121, 80 finish) for 2-0. The 3rd was comfortable in 20 darts for an excellent 3-0 win and the MOM award. 7 tons for Rob, 2 for Adam. Final score 7-1 to Sutton.

Running averages were Sutton 23.48, Shard End 20.84

Tons were Sutton 53+3, Shard End 37+1.

Shard End will bounce back from this result, and we know they will definitely be up for the return later in the season. We have to hope from our side that we can now build on this to re-discover the winning form we showed for much of last season.

A very tough game next up, Cherry Tree at home featuring Steve Hine, Scott Mitton and our old mate from the double top league Martin Brown amongst others, which will be followed by the re-arranged home game with Rugby.
