MATCH REPORT

NUNEATON 4 SUTTON COLDFIELD 4

There is no doubt Nuneaton are a stronger side than last season and will cause problems for a lot of teams, particularly at home. Their young lads are only going to get better, and although we would have gone there looking to win this one, it may be we will look back on this as a decent away point won in a few weeks time.

JAMES YOUNG JNR (23.34) 3 PAUL CUMMING (20.51) 1

This 17 year-old Nuneaton lad gets better every time we see him, but with James sat on 20 Paul took the first leg in some style with a 151 finish in 21 darts. James took the next 2 for Nuneaton in 19 & 25 though Paul will rue the 5 missed darts at a double in that 3rd leg. A great start to the 4th for Paul (85, 100, 140, 140) but again doubles cost as Paul had 9 darts to level it up before James won it in 23 darts for 3-1. 5 tons for Paul, 9 for James. 1-0 to Nuneaton on the night.

ADAM SMITHNEALE (21.68) 0 ROB HAWKER (25.05) 3

A bit of a masterclass for the 15 year-old to observe in leg 1 as Pikey took it in 15 darts (100,100,100,85,116f). The second leg should have been a quick one too with Rob sat on 58 after 15, but finishing again cost Rob what was looking like being a 30+ as he finally clocked out in 25 darts. Rob took the 3rd in 20 darts for 3-0 and the MOM but this young lad should take heart. He won't play Pikey every week. 8 tons to Rob, 1 for Adam. 1-1 the match score.

ADAM HANCOCK (31.98) 3 DANE VICKERS (25.18) 0

Dane not doing a lot wrong here, but Adam in great nick for the hosts winning in 15, 17 & 15 darts to claim the MOM. 1st leg went 100, 85, 140, 95, 81f. He started the 2nd leg 100, 99, 100, 140 but took 5 darts from 62. 3rd leg more TV stuff (81,100,140,100, 80f) with Dane sat on 38. 3 tons for Dane, 8 for Adam. 2-1 to Nuneaton.

DEAN BAYLISS (18.68) 0 MARK KANE (23.48) 3

A comfortable win for Kaney, but again doubles costing a good average. Sat on 56 after 15 in the 1st and well ahead Kaney eventually took it in 22. The 2nd went in 18 darts, but the 3rd followed the pattern of the 1st. 92 left after 15 darts became a 24 darter. It did, however, give Dean time to hit a 180 just before the end. 5 tons for Kaney, 3 and a 180 for Dean. 2-2 overall.

JOHN WHITTAKER (19.25) 2 CHRIS MILLWARD (23.99) 3

Milly in control winning the 1st leg easily in 18, but John dug in on the 2nd leg to level in 22. Milly regained the initiative with a 21 dart leg that included 3 x 100 & a 140, but John bounced back again in 23 for 2-2. Milly has been here before though and a couple of tons in the last game him the edge for 21 darts & a 3-2 win. 9 tons for Milly, 5 for John. Sutton ahead for the first time on the night 3-2.

JIM YOUNG SNR (26.37) 3 GLENN WEST (17.07) 0

Glenn, on his Warwickshire Super league debut, was out-gunned here by Jim who has been called up to the County for the 1st game of the season. Jim taking the games in 18, 22 & 17 darts and included finishes of 115 & 100. 2 tons for Glenn, 6 for Jim. 3-3 the match score.

DARREN JACQUES (20.57) 0 JOHN KAVANAGH (22.10) 3

Steady if not spectacular, JK coming out on top relatively comfortably in the end against Darren who was on debut for Nuneaton. JK took the 1st in 23 darts and followed with a 21 dart 2nd leg which included a 110 finish. JK then took the 3rd leg in 24 for 3-0. 4 tons for JK, 3 for Darren. 4-3 to Sutton.

JOHN MONTGOMERY (23.59) 3 MARK WILD (21.06) 2

A cracking last game of the night which swung one way then the other. Monty took the 1st for Nuneaton in 18 darts clocking 117. Wildy levelled in 22, before Monty found a 2nd 18 darter with the darts for 2-1. Wildy hit 3 tons in the 4th leg but it got nervy with both players missing doubles, before Wildy took it for 2-2. The 5th looked Wildy's all the way against the darts. He hit a 140 & a 136 to leave tops after 15 with Monty sat on 169. However, 6 missed darts at a double (the story of our night) let Monty in for a 3-2 win and a drawn match. 8 tons for Wildy, 12 tons for Monty.

An enjoyable night in Treacle Town, and we can't really begrudge them their draw on the night which they earned with some great darts at times.

Next up Coventry Cherry Tree at our place which is usually a very good game. I understand they have also added a Mr Dave Harris to their ranks this year. Should be a good night.
