MATCH REPORT

Sutton Sports 6 Nuneaton 2

An excellent win against a side we always seem to have very close games against. It really came down to a few crucial legs on the night where we found the doubles, but it was great to get the points.

Ian McFarlane (22.63) 3 John Sanders (21.36) 2

Ian must have thought the first leg had gone when he missed double 5 for a 130 finish, but John missed his chance and Ian took it in 22 darts against the throw. Ian had 2 at a double for 2-0 before John levelled in 20 darts. John then started leg 3 with a maximum, and with advantage of throw, steady further scoring took him ahead 2-1 in 18 darts. Both players couldn’t quite find the big scores in the 4th but Ian took out double top for a 25 dart 4th leg and squared it up at 2-2. A steady start to the last put Ian in control and he closed out the match in 21 darts for a 3-2 win. Ian 5 tons, John 4 tons and a 180. 1-0 Sutton.

John Kavanagh (24.37) 3 Shaun Turton (22.15) 2

A maximum from Shaun in the first leg, but 3 tons from JK saw him down first and out in 20 darts. Shaun got much the better start in the second, but JK rallied to allow himself two at a double before Shaun took it for 1-1 in 25 darts. The 3rd followed the pattern of the first, a good start from Shaun but 3 tons from JK seeing him down first and out in 20 darts. The 4th leg was pretty much dart for dart with Shaun taking it with advantage of throw in 23 with JK on tops. The 5th was better from JK out in 16 darts (100, 135, 121, 60, 65, 20f) for a 3-2 win, all legs going with throw. JK 11 tons, Shaun 6 tons and a 180. 2-0 Sutton.

Dane Vickers (19.08) 3 Lee Hardy (17.61) 1

Both players missed chances in the first before Lee closed out in 28 darts. Dane levelled in a steady if unspectacular second leg in 27 darts. A much better 3rd leg saw Dane go 2-1 up, clocking 120 for a 21-dart game. Chances were missed on both sides in the 4th before Dane took it in 29 darts for a 3-1 win. Dane 3 tons, Lee 3 tons. 3-0 Sutton.

Mark Birch (24.64) 3 Steve Pinch (21.52) 0

Birchy started in great form out in 16 darts (140, 100, 83, 98, 40, 40f). Mark then managed to bust 93 in the second before taking it in 26. Steve did have his chances in that 2nd leg though. Steve played a steady 3rd leg including a 140 and leaving 52 after 18 darts. Birchy, however, responded with a maximum and out in 19 darts for a 3-0 win and the Sutton MOM. Mark 4 tons and a 180, Steve 2 tons. 4-0 Sutton.

Mark Wild (21.90) 3 John Whittaker (23.33) 2

If a single game summed up Nuneaton’s luck on the night then this was it. John started in great form going off 140, 100, 100 before taking the first leg in 18 darts. In the second he scored a maximum and a 140 on his way to a 22-dart leg and led 2-0. John’s first 5 throws in the 3rd were all over 81 but he missed 10 at a double before Mark pulled a leg back in 23 darts. In the 4th John was down on 73 after 15 and missed chances again before Mark levelled in another 23-dart game. The last leg went dart for dart and after John missed with two at a double, Mark took out the required 47 for a 21-dart game and a tremendous 3-2 comeback win. Mark 5 tons, John 11 tons and a 180. 5-0 Sutton.

Matt Gallett (27.38) 1 Adam Hancock (28.06) 3

Neither deserved to lose a cracking contest here. A steady first leg from both saw Matt take out 51 for 21 darts and a 1-0 lead. Each player recorded a 140 and a 100 in the second and Matt did get a chance before Adam levelled in 19 darts. Matt hit back to back 140’s in the 3rd and had first shot at a double, but Adam with a maximum and a 101 finish took the lead in 15 darts (60, 180, 100, 60, 101f). The 4th leg was nip and tuck with Adam and Matt leaving 71 and 78 respectively after 15 darts. Adam had first chance and took out the 71 for an 18 dart leg and a 3-1 win. Matt 5 tons, Adam 7 tons and a 180. 5-1 Sutton.

Barrie Linnecor (20.24) 3 Gary Jackson (18.98) 2

Another great comeback from Sutton’s perspective. Gary took the first leg in 26 darts. A steady leg from Barrie, playing his first game of the season due mainly to work commitments, saw him down first despite back to back tons from Gary. Baz missed 9 at a double though, and Gary took the leg in 29 darts for 2-0. Both players put back to back ton plus scores in on leg 3. Both had chances before Barrie took the leg in 23 darts to reduce the deficit. Scores of 100 & 121 put Baz in control in leg 4, and he duly levelled at 2-2 in 23 darts. A close 5th leg saw both players have chances before Barrie took it in 22 darts for a 3-2 win. Barrie 6 tons, Gary 7 tons. 6-1 Sutton.

Adam Gallett (19.79) 0 John Montgomery (22.10) 3

A good first leg saw Adam have 3 at a double before John clocked 55 for an 18-dart game. The second was close too with Adam again first to a double, but more missed chances allowed John to take out 50 for a 29 dart second leg. John got the edge in game 3 with back to back scores of 100 & 121, and he finished off in style with a 100 finish for a 3-0 win. Adam 2 tons, John 5 tons. Final score 6-2 to Sutton.

All in all a good day at the office, picking up our 3rd win in 5 games.

The tons count was Sutton 41+1 and Nuneaton 45+4.

Running averages were Sutton 22.50, Nuneaton 21.89.

We always have a good night with the Nuneaton lads regardless of the score and they were most sporting in defeat on a night when they could claim Lady Luck certainly deserted them.

Next up it is the re-arranged game against Hall Green away. They have a chap playing for them by the name of Rob Hanker or Harker or something. He is meant to be pretty useful. Should be a good night.
