MATCH REPORT

Leamington 6 Sutton Coldfield 2

You know what to expect at Leamington, and going in minus your two County players was going to make it a huge task.

Whilst the result went 6-2 in favour of the home side and they did play some excellent darts, we have to say that in the circumstances it was a much more competitive performance from our side than in recent weeks and we did make them work for their win.

Nigel Heydon (26.84) 3 Dane Vickers (23.28) 0

Dane had 3 at 40 to win the first leg, despite 3 tons from Nigel, but Nigel took it in 19 darts. The second leg saw Nigel miss doubles, which gave Dane another opportunity with 3 darts at 55. Again the chance went begging, and Nigel took it in 23 darts. Nothing Dane could do about the 3rd leg, as ‘Tombstone’ went out in 14 darts (83, 41, 180, 140, 57f) for 3-0. Nigel 7 tons and a 180, Dane 5 tons. Leamington 1-0 up.

Pete Allen (25.22) 2 Chris Millward (24.63) 3

Milly looked in control in the first, but threw for the wrong shot letting in Pete to steal it in 21 darts with a 111 finish. It was Pete’s turn to miss his shot in the second, letting Milly back in to level in 23 darts. Pete threw a great 3rd leg giving Milly no chance with a 15-dart game (140, 125, 60, 100, 76f) for a 2-1 lead. Milly bounced back again in the 4th and was on 68 after just 12 darts, eventually taking it in 18 darts for 2-2. Milly showed his bottle in the 5th leg clocking 56 to take it against the darts in 20 darts with Pete having left 36. Milly also securing the Sutton MOM with his 3-2 win. Pete 11 tons, Milly 7 tons. 1-1 the match score.

Dave Atkins (22.20) 1 Paul Cumming (21.51) 3

Paul showed plenty of character to win this having lost his last 4 games, a run he has rarely, if ever, experienced before at this level. Paul had chances in the first but missed doubles allowed Dave to take it in 25 darts. Paul hit a 180 as he took the 2nd against the darts in 21 to level up. Paul went ahead in a close 3rd leg, winning in 24 darts. The 4th leg saw Paul hit 100, 121, and 140 on his way to a 21-dart game and a 3-1 win. Dave 7 tons, Paul 6 tons and a 180. Sutton 2-1 up.

Pete Hughes (25.05) 3 James Owen (20.74) 0

Pete started strongly and took the 1st in just 18 darts. More heavy scoring saw him go 2-0 up in 19 darts. James gave himself a great chance in the 3rd with a 128 to leave 8, but Pete took out the required 50 for a 23-dart game and a 3-0 win. Pete 5 tons James 2 tons. 2-2 the match score.

Jamie Atkins (30.65) 3 Mark Wild (24.05) 1

Mark clocked 76 to take a 1-0 lead in 21 darts, but Jamie hit back in awesome fashion. He took the 2nd to level at 1-1 in 18 darts with a 106 finish with Wildy sat on 61. In the 3rd leg, Jamie finished in 13 darts (100, 180, 137, 78, 6f) having had a chance for 11 darts. It was more of the same in the 4th as Jamie took out tops for 16 darts and a 3-1 win. Jamie 9 tons and a 180, Wildy 3 tons. Leamington 3-2 up.

Dave Clarke (25.05) 3 John Kavanagh (23.84) 0

Dave took out 20 for the 1st leg in 21 darts, with JK having just hit 134 to leave 36 after 18. Dave also hitting a 180 in that 1st leg. JK missed double 16 for a 101 finish in the 2nd, allowing Dave to step in and take the leg in 19 darts for 2-0. Dave made the advantage of the throw pay again in the 3rd leg taking it in 20 darts with JK on 76. Dave 5 tons and a 180, JK 3 tons. Leamington 4-2 up.

Colin Laffer (25.23) 3 Barrie Linnecor (23.37) 1

A cracking finish to the leg by Colin whose last 9 darts were 121, 100, 103f to take it in 18 darts. Colin took the 2nd in 23 with Baz on 48. Baz pulled one back, taking out 62 for 21 darts in the 3rd. The 4th could have gone either way. Colin starting well, including a 180 to leave 52 after just 12 darts. Baz then just missed double 18 for a 150 out shot and what would have been a 15 dart game. Both had further shots before Colin took the leg in 19 darts for a 3-1 win. Colin 8 tons and a 180, Baz 6 tons. Leamington 5-2 up.

Nick Gedney (31.98) 3 Chris Millward Jnr (21.79) 0

A debut for young Milly in the absence of a few of our players for various reasons, and what an experience for him against former England International Nick. Nick took the first in just 17 darts, and continued to play even better as the game continued. The second went in 15 darts (100, 140, 140, 57, 64f) for a 2-0 lead. The 3rd leg another 15 dart game (100, 60, 140, 125, 76f) for 3-0 and pipping Jamie for the MOM in the process. Nothing young Milly could do about that, but he continued to throw steadily and showed great composure in his first ever super league game. Nick 9 tons, Young Milly 1 ton. Final score 6-2 to Leamington.

Running averages were Leamington 26.53, Sutton 22.90.

A great performance by a superb Leamington side. However, it was a decent display given Rob Hawker and Mark Kane were among the missing, so who knows whether we might have just got something had they been there.

One league game to go now, so it really would be good to get back to winning ways in the home game against Coventry Bishopsgate on 22nd April. Before that, however, we do have the KO cup in Coventry on 15th April.
