MATCH REPORT
Sutton Sports 0 Leamington 8
An excellent
Leamington performance left us on the receiving end of a whitewash, but
the scoreline doesn't really reflect the Sutton team performance. There
were some excellent displays and enough was seen to suggest we will
give most sides in this league a real run for their money.
Dane Vickers (24.98) 0 Jamie Atkins (32.67) 3
There
was little Dane could do to stop Leamington MOM Jamie, particularly
against the throw. Jamie started with a 17 dart leg. with Dane handily
placed on 126 after 15. Jamie went even better in the second leg
hitting 2 x 140 and a 116 finish to take a 2-0 lead in 15 darts. The
3rd leg saw Jamie out in 14 (60, 134, 180, 94, 33f) with Dane, who
never gave up, having left a finish after just 12 darts himself. Dane 4
tons, Jamie 7 tons & a 180. 1-0 Leamington.
Mark Wild (26.01) 1 Mark McGeeney (28.81) 3
Mark
McGeeney was quick out of the blocks with a 16 dart first leg that
included 3 tons. Wildy bounced back with a maximum and a 108 finish for
an 18 dart leg to level at 1-1. Mark re-took the lead in 17 darts with
a maximum himself, and then won the match in the 4th with an 18 dart
leg which included yet another 180. Wildy 7 tons and a 180, Mark 9 tons
and 2 x 180's. 2-0 Leamington.
Paul Cumming (17.32) 0 Dave Atkins (23.86) 3
A
steady if not spectacular first leg saw Dave go 1-0 up in 22 darts. The
second saw Dave go 2-0 up in 24 darts. His 3rd was his best leg, out in
17 darts for 3-0, with Paul well below his best on the night. Paul 1
ton, Dave 2 tons. 3-0 Leamington.
Adam Gallett (23.37) 0 Nigel Heydon (28.36) 3
Nigel
took the first against the darts in 19 darts with Adam sat on tops. The
second saw Nigel out in 14 darts (100, 100, 60, 180, 61f). The 3rd leg
saw Adam have 2 at a double before Nigel took it in 20 darts for 3-0. A
second successive 23+ average from Adam though. Adam 3 tons, Nigel 7
tons plus a 180. Leamington 4-0 up.
Matt Gallett (22.92) 0 Dave Sanders (23.48) 3
Matt
had his chances in the first, but missed tops, letting in Dave to clock
64 for a 21 dart game. Both had chances in the second before Dave found
double 1 for 24 darts, in a leg in which Dave hit 4 tons. The 3rd was
also close but advantage of throw allowed Dave to get first chance and
he was out in 19 darts for 3-0. Matt 6 tons, Dave 9 tons. 5-0
Leamington.
Mark Birch (19.74) 0 Colin Laffar (21.17) 3
A
steady start from both players, with Colin taking the 1st leg in 23
darts. The second was the crucial one for Mark against the darts,
having left 64 after 15, and including a maximum, Mark had 8 at a
double to level, before Colin took it in 25 darts for 2-0. The 3rd leg
saw Mark down first again, but missed doubles again allowed Colin to
nick it in 23 darts. Mark 3 tons and a 180, Colin 4 tons. Leamington
6-0 up.
Ian McFarlane (26.60) 2 Pete Hughes (26.94) 3
Undoubtedly
the contest of the night with all legs ultimately going with throw. The
first was a cracker. Ian leaving 75 after 12 darts (100, 59, 180, 87)
only to see Pete chip out 121 for 15 darts. In the second it was
reversed with Pete leaving 16 after 15 darts, and Ian clocking 89 for
an 18 dart leveller. Both had chances in the 3rd before Pete took out
double 4 for 22 darts and 2-1. Ian bounced back again with an 87 finish
for 18 darts and 2-2. In the final leg Ian had one dart at double 16 to
take it, but narrowly missed, and Pete took the match in 22 darts. Ian
7 tons and a 180, Pete 13 tons. Leamington 7-0.
Chris Turnbull (23.69) 0 Pete Allen (26.37) 3
Chris
fresh from his exhibition win over Martin Adams the night before looked
good for the first leg leaving tops, only for Pete to take it in 18
darts, a leg in which Pete also hit a 180. A very even 2nd leg saw Pete
first down and he took out 48 for 2-0. Pete then took the 3rd in 21
darts for 3-0. Chris 3 tons, Pete 4 tons and a 180. Leamington winning
8-0.
A superb running average by Leamington of 26.46, the second
highest ever achieved against Sutton Sports in a super league match.
Leamington having the record against us in last seasons game at
Leamington 26.53. Our own running average of 23.08 was reasonably
steady and suggests we will have better nights as the season
progresses.
What we are seeing so far this season are very
strong performances from the more experienced players like Ginger,
Birchy and Wildy whilst the batch of younger lads we have this season
are showing a lot of early season promise. It will surely get a lot
better lads.
