MATCH REPORT
Leamington 8 Sutton Sports 0
It certainly is
bordering on humiliation to get beat 8-0 by the same team home and away
in a season. In fairness that has been down on each occasion to the
ability of our opponents to raise their game at the right time, and
take their doubles when they come along. In fairness we can feel hard
done by with the scale of both scorelines (the games were closer than
the scores) even if it is true that the superior side won on each
occasion.
Dave Sanders (25.05) 3 Chris Millward (24.12) 0
2
x 140’s for Milly in the first leg saw him down first and he had a shot
at 14 darts before 8 missed darts at doubles allowed in Dave. Dave
didn’t need asking twice and took it in 20 darts. An even second leg,
with Milly leaving tops, but Dave’s advantage of throw allowing him
first chance and he took 48 out for a 21 dart 2nd leg. Two tons and a
121 for Milly in leg 3 meant he got down first again. Another 5 missed
darts at a double, and once again Dave made no mistake for a 3-0 win.
Dave 6 tons, Chris 6 tons. 1-0 Leamington.
Nick Gedney (25.09) 3 Mark Birch (24.91) 2
A
cracking first leg from Birchy including a 135, 140 and a 177 to leave
tops, which he took out for 16 darts. He looked to have set up the 2nd
leg with 2 further tons, but a brilliant 130 finish from Nick squared
it up in 21 darts. Nick won a close 3rd in 20 darts to lead 2-1. The
4th saw both players leave 56 after 15 darts, with Mark hitting a
maximum. Mark got first shot and took the leg in 18 darts for 2-2. Mark
hit a further 2 tons in the 5th, but it was Nick with 121 & 137 who
finished in 22 darts, with Mark left on tops, to take the game 3-2.
Nick 10 tons, Mark 10 tons and 2 x maximums. 2-0 Leamington.
Dave Atkins (25.96) 3 Chris Turnbull (21.62) 2
A
great start by Chris clocking 140 finish in the 1st for 21 darts. Dave
looked to have the edge in the 2nd but back to back tons put Chris back
in the leg, and he clocked out on 90 for a 2-0 lead in 20 darts. Dave
was undeterred though starting 180, 140 and finishing in 16 darts to
reduce the arrears against throw. Dave then left tops after 12 darts in
the 4th starting 140, 101, 121, 99 and despite a stutter on the finish
he took the leg in 19 darts. Chris started 100, 100 in the 5th leg but
2 tons and three more scores of 80+ saw Dave down first and out in 19
darts to record a great comeback. So tough on Chris looking for that
elusive first win in superleague. That is 4 x 3-2 defeats on the spin
for him now. Dave 9 tons and a 180, Chris 8 tons. Leamington 3-0.
Pete Hughes (25.47) 3 Dane Vickers (22.67) 0
Pete
took a close first leg in 23 darts including a 125 & 100 with Dane
left on just 45. The second was an excellent leg from Pete starting
100, 100, 180. He missed a few doubles but still made it 2-0 in 17
darts. Dane started well in the 3rd leg with 81, 134, but Pete scored
steadily including scores of 100 & 134 himself to get down first
and secure the 3-0 win in 19 darts. Pete 7 tons and a 180. Dane 2 tons.
Leamington 4-0.
Colin Laffar (20.88) 3 John Kavanagh (19.69) 0
A
steady first leg with a 100 & 125 from JK, but Colin replied with
scores of 100, 140, and 121 before clocking out 87 for 18 darts with JK
on 60. Both players scored well in the second Colin leaving 24 after 15
darts with scores of 100, 140 and 137, whilst JK left 101 after 12
darts with scores of 100, 100 & 140. Comedy finishing, however,
from both players followed, with the players missing a total of 27
darts at doubles before Colin eventually finished in 31 darts. With any
chance of decent averages gone, both again missed doubles in the 3rd
leg before Colin took it in 23 darts for 3-0. Colin 7 tons, JK 6 tons.
5-0 Leamington.
Dave Clarke (20.88) 3 Adam Gallett (17.03) 0
Both
players struggled to find the red bit in the first leg, with Colin
taking it in 29 darts for 1-0. A better 2nd leg included a 122 from
Adam but scores of 100 & 140 saw Dave down first and out in 20
darts. An early 140 put Dave in charge in the 3rd, and despite late
scores of 95 & 84 by Adam, Dave got down first and finished in 23
darts for 3-0. Dave 4 tons, Adam 1 ton. Leamington 6-0 up.
Mark McGeeney (28.36) 3 Mark Wild (22.54) 0
Steady
scoring saw the home player down first and out in 19 darts. Back to
back tons from Wildy to start the 2nd leg, but Mark scored a couple of
tons himself and got first shot taking out 62 for a 21-dart leg to lead
2-0. A superb 3rd leg from Mr McGeeney out in 13 darts (95, 55, 140,
171, 40f), with Wildy himself left on just 80. Mark McGeeney 5 tons and
a maximum, Wildy 4 tons. Leamington 7-0.
Nigel Heydon (31.96) 3 Matt Gallett (28.10) 2
Absolute
cracker of a game. The first leg saw Nigel out in 17 darts with a 140
and 2 scores of 90+, with Matt left on just 104 after 12 with a 100 and
2 scores of 90+ himself. In the 2nd leg Matt levelled in 20 darts with
scores of 120 & 140. A fantastic 3rd leg from Nigel, out in 12
darts (180, 100, 140, 81f) for 2-1. Back came Matt again out in 15
darts (180, 97, 100, 99, 25f), with Nigel on a double after 12 having
scored 100, 135, 105, 137. Nigel was relentless in the 5th also and
despite a 100 from Matt and 2 scores of 80+, Nigel went out in 15 darts
(100, 140, 100, 97, 64f) for a 3-2 win and the MOM. Nigel 12 tons and a
180, Matt 7 tons and a 180. Leamington 8-0.
The result felt
harsh, but if you miss chances against Leamington this is what happens.
It is also probably not too early to be congratulating them on what
will inevitably be another league title.
Running averages were Leamington 25.46, Sutton 22.59.
Tons were Leamington 60 + 4, Sutton 44 + 3.
Next
up we are at home to Coventry Bishopsgate on 20th January, where we
hope to reverse a 6-2 defeat in the away game earlier in the season.
