Kenilworth 0 Sutton Coldfield 8
It couldn't have really gone any better could it!
Yet we
need to bear in mind that Kenilworth drew with 2nd placed Cherry Tree recently,
so this was a great result.
Tim Cork (19.17) 0 Mark Kane
(27.83) 3
A comfortable win for Kaney with his opponent not
getting down below 140 in any of the 3 legs. 1st leg steady in 19 darts. Even
better in the 2nd taking it in 16 (100, 123, 100, 96, 42, 40f). Kaney wrapped it
up with a 19 dart 3rd leg and took the MOM award too ............. after a nail
biting wait! Kaney 6 tons, Tim 2 tons. 1-0 Sutton.
Mick
Kerry (17.60) 2 John Kavanagh (21.48) 3
JK slow out of the
blocks losing a poor 1st leg on the double. Took the 2nd in better fashion in 15
darts (45, 85. 180, 133, 58f). Poor scoring in the 3rd let in Mick for 2-1 in 26
darts, but JK took a comfortable 4th in 21 darts for 2-2. Mick struggled in the
5th allowing JK the luxury of being able to miss a few doubles before taking the
leg in 23 darts for 3-2. JK 10 tons and a 180, Mick 4 tons. 2-0 Sutton.
Chris Graham (19.87) 0 Dane Vickers (24.64) 3
First leg was dart for dart, with Dane taking it in 25 with the
advantage of throwing first. An excellent and very close 2nd leg saw Dane out in
19 darts including 2 x 140, but he had missed double 8 for 14 darts. Dane turned
the screw in the 3rd winning comfortably in 17 darts. Dane 8 tons, Chris 2 tons.
3-0 Sutton.
Rich Aldridge (13.43) 0 Mark Wild (21.78)
3
Wildy not really tested in this one, and that is not always
good for your game. Wildy took a poor 1st leg in 27. He then went 2-0 up in 20
darts winning by a distance, and made it 3-0 in 22 darts with his opponent again
out of sight. Important to get the win but Wildy will know there is a lot more
in the tank when needed. Wildy 6 tons, Rich 1 ton. 4-0 Sutton.
John Philpot (18.19) 0 Dave Wallace (19.78) 3
Dave won a close 1st leg in 25 darts. Several missed doubles on both
sides ended with Dave making it 2-0 in 29 darts. The 3rd was more comfortable
with Dave hitting 2 x 140 and 100 and winning in 22 darts for 3-0 and confirming
the bonus points for Sutton with a now unassailable lead. Dave 5 tons, John 1
ton. 5-0 Sutton.
Steve Timlin (24.21) 0 Rob Hawker (26.84)
3
Steve is always steady, and when Rob missed a 116 finish in
the first it looked like he could go one down. Steve missed, Rob didn't and it
was 1-0. The 2nd leg saw Steve on a double after 12 darts with 4 successive ton
plusses, Rob had a shot for 112 finish but missed. Steve missed his chance again
and Rob went 2 up. The 3rd was more comfortable. Rob on 110 after 12, eventually
winning in 17 darts for 3-0. Rob 5 tons, Steve 6 tons. 6-0 Sutton.
Tom Parr (19.76) 0 Paul Cumming (22.43) 3
A
steady 1st leg saw Paul 1 up in 21 darts. An excellent 2nd leg saw Paul start
135, 125, 125, before missing tops for 14 darts. He took the leg in 17. Both
players then missed doubles in leg 3 with Paul eventually taking it in 29 darts
for 3-0. Paul 8 tons, Tom 3 tons. Sutton 7-0.
Martin Tonks
(23.18) 1 Chris Millward (25.92) 3
A cracking 114 finish saw
Milly take the first against the darts in 18. Missed doubles by Milly let Martin
level at 1-1 in 23. Milly went back in front in the 3rd, taking it in 19 darts,
but having a shot for 14. The 4th was even better as he won in 16 darts, his
opponent having hit 4 tons in the leg and not even getting to a double. Milly 6
tons, Martin 8 tons. Sutton 8-0.
A great win, and we have to say the
draw and just about everything else on the night went our way. Kenilworth were
not really at the races on the night and will be very disappointed with their
games, but you still have to win these games and our lads did with the team's
best tons per leg ratio of the season of 2 per leg.
Tons were Kenilworth
27, Sutton 54 + 1. (Only 27 legs were played on the night).
Running
averages were Kenilworth 19.43, Sutton 23.84.
Plenty of big plusses
again this week. Milly is starting to threaten Rob & Kaney with his averages
now on a weekly basis for the coveted MOM awards, and Dane is improving and
growing in confidence all the time.
Hopefully we can use this as a
stepping stone to a better 2nd half, and players can take confidence from these
wins into their next games. Next up is Nuneaton at home. We drew at their place
earlier in the season and they are having their best ever season at present, so
we will need to be on our game to get the points.
