MATCH REPORT

HALL GREEN 5 SUTTON COLDFIELD 3

A very difficult game was made a whole lot tougher with a number of unexpected Sutton absentees for this game. Tony Lewis was already ruled out after his knee operation, but Mark Kane, Chris Millward, Barry Linnecor and Dave Wallace didn’t make it either. As a result the players drawn numbers 1 to 3 had just 3 games under their belts between them this season prior to the match.

Tom Martin (28.29) 3 James Owen (23.35) 1

Tom was off to a flier winning the first 2 legs in 17 & 16 darts. James took the third in 21 darts, but could not match Tom in the 4th leg, the home player going out in 18 darts for a 3-1 win. Tom 6 tons, James 5 tons. 1-0 Hall Green.

Lee Harris (30.06) 3 Marc Norton (23.31) 0

Lee may play with most of our side on a Tuesday, but he was in no generous mood here. Lee took the first in 17 darts with Norty having hit 3 tons in the leg himself. Lee went one better in the second, out in 16 darts. More of the same in the third with 17 darts for 3-0 as Norty was left on tops. Lee 8 tons, Norty 5 tons. 2-0 Hall Green.

Steve Harding (24.24) 3 Barry French (19.00) 0

Barry playing for the first time this season, but out-gunned by Steve on the night. Steve took the first in 21 darts. He then clocked 71 for a 24 dart second leg.  The third was his best out in 17 darts for 3-0. Steve 5 tons, Barry 1 ton. Hall Green 3-0.

Jimmy Norris (20.23) 0 Rob Hawker (22.43) 3

Rob threw an incredible 25 darts at doubles in all, which reduced what would have been a very good average to a very ordinary one. He had left 62 after 12 darts in the first, only to take it in 24 darts. More of the same in the second. 80 left after 12, but game in 25. The third was better, missing tops for 15 darts, but taking it in 18. Jim 5 tons, Rob 8 tons. 3-1 Hall Green.

Lee Martin (18.26) 2 Dane Vickers (21.68) 3

A slow start saw Dane take the first in 26 darts. Lee levelled in 23 darts. Dane then went back ahead, himself in 23 darts. Lee won a close 4th leg in 23 for 2-2, but Dane saved the best leg for last winning it comfortably in 17 darts. Lee 5 tons, Dane 6 tons. 3-2 Hall Green.

Bob Nixon (23.17) 3 John Kavanagh (19.91) 1

Wildly inconsistent from JK. Bob took the first comfortably in 20 darts. JK levelled equally comfortably in 18. Bob then eased into a 2-1 lead in 17 darts. The fourth was close all the way, with JK on 94 after 15 darts and Bob on 100. JK then missed 8 darts at a double to level before Bob sewed it up in 25 darts for 3-1. Bob 5 tons, JK 8 tons. 4-2 Hall Green.

Mark Gwalchmai (21.38) 1 Paul Cumming (21.62) 3

Mark clocked 76 for an 18 dart first leg. Paul then finished 88 to level in 21 darts himself. The 3rd leg saw missed doubles both sides before Paul took it in 25 darts. Mark started the 4th leg 100, 140, 100 but missed doubles, allowing Paul to take out 59 for 23 darts and a 3-1 win. Mark 6 tons, Paul 5 tons. 4-3 Hall Green.

Kirk Shepherd (28.75) 3 Mark Wild (22.11) 1

Kirk made an awesome start out in 12 darts (180, 115, 134, 72f). Kirk then hit a further 3 tons in the second leg and took out 78 for 18 darts and 2-0. Wildy battled back to win the third leg in 23, but a 15 dart fourth leg wrapped it up for Kirk (140, 83, 81, 127, 70f). Kirk 10 tons, Mark 3 tons. 5-3 Hall Green.

In the end a respectable result against a very good Hall Green side who are already nailed on for at least a top 4 finish.

The match stats show our opponents were deserved winners with:

Tons scored:- Hall Green 50+1, Sutton 41.

Running Averages:- Hall Green 24.30, Sutton 21.68.

However, with a bit of luck in the draw it might have allowed us to nick a draw. Wildy playing Kirk certainly didn’t help.

We wish Hall Green all the best for a good finish to the season, and they carry the flag for the Birmingham sides at the top of the table.

We need to get back to winning ways. Next up its Bartley Green at home.
