MATCH REPORT

Hall Green 5 Sutton Sports 3

Undoubtedly a very strong Hall Green line up, but with a bit more luck we could have got something out of the game.

Kirk Shepherd (25.05) 3 Chris Turnbull (19.58) 0

A close first leg with Chris hitting 140 & 100 whilst Kirk scored 4 tons back-to-back. Chris had his chances with 5 at a double before Kirk finished in 22 darts. Two tons at the start of leg 2 followed by steady scoring saw Kirk go 2-0 up in 18 darts and 3 more tons in the 3rd leg saw Kirk home in 20 darts for 3-0. Kirk 9 tons, Chris 3 tons. 1-0 Hall Green.

Mark Gwalchmai (24.24) 1 Mark Birch (27.28) 3

A bad first 3 darts from Birchy but what a comeback to take the 1st leg against the darts in 15 with a cracking 145 finish (38, 123, 95, 100, 145f). Birchy then hit 140 and 2 x 100 in the second, taking it in 17 darts for 2-0. Three tons back-to-back at the start of leg 3 from Mark Gwalchmai helped him pull one back in 21 darts, but consecutive 140’s from Birchy in leg 4 saw him down first, and despite a few missed doubles he took it for 3-1 in 22 darts and took the Sutton MOM for the 4th time in 6 games. Mark Gwalchmai 8 tons Mark Birch 10 tons. 1-1 the match score.

Rob Hawker (30.06) 3 Mark Wild (22.98) 0

Wildy had every chance in the first leaving just 62 after 15 darts before Pikey clocked out in 15 darts (60, 140, 100, 140, 61f) for the home side. Wildy then pushed Rob all the way in the second too before he took out 8 for 18 darts and 2-0. Rob started well in the 3rd with 140 followed by 2 x 100 and closed it out in 17 darts for 3-0 and the Hall Green MOM against his former team. Rob 8 tons, Wildy 3 tons. 2-1 to Hall Green.

Steve Harding (24.17) 3 Paul Cumming (22.02) 2

A 100 & 121 gave Steve the edge in leg one and he made advantage of throw pay taking out 50 for 21 darts with Paul sat handily on 84. Paul dug in on leg two with steady scores to level at 1-1 in 25 darts. Steve started the stronger in leg three but a maximum put Paul back in the game. Steve once again made advantage of throw count taking out 47 for 17 darts to lead 2-1. Paul hung in there in the 4th and clocked a cracking 103 to level it at 2-2. The 5th was dart for dart each players hitting scores of 140 & 100 apiece, but Steve was down first with the darts and made no mistake on 32 for 19 darts and a crucial 3-2 win. Steve 8 tons, Paul 5 tons and a 180. 3-1 Hall Green.

Bob Nixon (28.51) 3 Adam Gallett (21.43) 1

Adam threatened an upset against the County and Argus star taking the first leg in 23 darts. Few players could have done much about what followed though. Bob levelled in 18 darts including 2 tons and clocking 96. Adam hit a 137 to set up a 142 finish in the 3rd leg before Bob clocked 126 for a 15 dart leg (135, 100, 97, 43, 126f). Further scores of 134 & 140 gave Bob the edge in the 4th despite scores of 140 & 125 from Adam. Bob took it in 16 darts for 3-1 with Adam wanting 124 after 15. Bob 8 tons, Adam 4 tons. 4-1 Hall Green.

Mick Gorst (23.19) 0 Ian McFarlane (25.05) 3

Macca was quick out of the blocks this week, starting with 100, 140 before taking the first in 16 darts. The second saw both players miss chances before Ian took out double 4 for 28 darts. Mick went off with 2 x 140 in the 3rd, but Ian replied with scores of 137 & 120 in the leg and took it in 16 darts for an excellent 3-0 win. Mick 6 tons, Ian 5 tons. Hall Green 4-2 up.

Lee Harris (26.40) 3 Dane Vickers (24.64) 1

Lee was the 3rd of the Hall Green side to play on the night who is registered for Sutton Sports on a Tuesday night in the FODDL. As with Rob Hawker and Bob Nixon before him it was another excellent performance. Lee took the first in 19 darts with 2 x 100 & a 140, though Dane was well placed to capitalise on 63. Another 3 tons from Lee in a 20 dart second leg, but again Dane pushed him close having left 82 and scored 100 & 125 in reply. A superb 17 dart leg from Dane in the 3rd reduced the arrears with 100 and 2 x 140, despite Lee having started the leg with a maximum. A very close 4th leg saw Dane miss out on an 87 finish for what would have been 18 darts, leaving Lee to take the leg in 21 darts. Lee 9 tons and a 180, Dane 8 tons. Hall Green 5-2 up.

Tom Martin (22.70) 1 Matt Gallett (23.50) 3

A steady 1st leg with 2 x 100 saw Matt one up in 21 darts. Matt then hit further scores of 100 & 105 in the second to go 2-0 up in 23 darts. Matt was chasing in the 3rd and consecutive scores of 137 & 140 ensured Tom got down first, and despite a few missed doubles he took that leg in 23 darts to reduce the deficit to 2-1. A cracking 4th leg saw Matt start 140, 140 as both left 56 after 15 darts. Matt with advantage of throw took it out in 2 darts for a 17-dart leg. Tom 5 tons, Matt 8 tons. Final score 5-3 to Hall Green.

Tons were: Hall Green 61+1, Sutton 46+1
Running Averages: Hall Green 25.54, Sutton 23.31

Hall Green are, if they can field a team like this on a regular basis, capable of beating anyone. In the end we came up a little short but with a bit more luck in the games of Paul Cumming and Dane Vickers in particular who knows what might have happened. In any event there won’t be many sides taking many points at Hall Green if they field their strongest line up for the rest of this season.

For our side there were some excellent performances from Birchy, Macca and Matt. Also on a positive note Dane showed he is getting back to his best, and Paul showed flashes of what he is really capable of. A big disappointment was the transport situation for the Sutton based lads. Having to leave one behind, and it was one of last weeks winners Barrie Linnecor who volunteered, did not help us in what was always going to be a difficult game. This is something we have to address before our next away match which fortunately is not until December.
