MATCH REPORT

Sutton Sports 2 Hall Green 6

Local rivals Hall Green completed the double over Sutton Sports, but in truth Sutton really did not perform as a team. Only Mark Birch and Chris Turnbull got anywhere near their running averages, and Hall Green are too good a side to do that against and expect to get away with it. The draw was also a bit tough on us, but that evens itself out over a season so we can’t dwell on that.

Dane Vickers (17.76) 1 Mick Gorst (21.43) 3

Dane’s recent run of good form deserted him in this one, despite going one up. Both players missed chances in leg 1 before Dane took it in 26 darts. Mick bounced back well though taking the 2nd leg in 15 darts (140, 121, 140, 84, 16f). Three more tons from Mick saw him 2-1 up in 20 darts. He then hit two further tons plus a 140 in a close 4th leg, before horrendous finishing on both sides saw Mick eventually finish in 30 darts for a 3-1 win. Dane 3 tons, Mick 11 tons. Hall Green 1-0 up.

Adam Gallett (18.00) 0 Lee Martin (23.48) 3

Adam set off with a 140, but back to back ton plus scores set Lee up to win the first in 18 darts. The second was close until Lee hit a 131 to leave 90, before taking the leg in 23 darts. Adam couldn’t find a treble in the 3rd which let Lee in to finish in 23 darts for 3-0. Adam 1 ton, Lee 4 tons. 2-0 Hall Geen.

John Kavanagh (16.95) 0 Kirk Shepherd (24.24) 3

Yet another horror show for Sutton, JK starting with a ton but unable to find another treble in the 1st leg, making it comfortable for Kirk, with throw, to take the first in 22 darts. If JK was going to push Kirk he had to hold throw but struggled throughout and Kirk duly went 2-0 up in 23 darts. Kirk gave JK little chance in the 3rd taking out 68 for 17 darts and a comfortable 3-0 win, with JK recording his losing average in 5 years. JK 1 ton, Kirk 6 tons. 3-0 Hall Green.

Chris Turnbull (23.20) 2 Lee Harris (26.22) 3

A ray of light for Sutton, but Chris just missed out against Tuesday team-mate Lee Harris. Three tons for Chris in the first to leave 48, but Lee out in 16 darts for 1-0. A cracking comeback for Chris in the 2nd leg, hitting 3 more tons and taking it against throw in 19 darts. Chris went ahead after a close 3rd with Chris taking it in 24 darts. Lee bounced back with a 15-dart 4th leg (100, 180, 100, 53, 68f) for 2-2. For the first time in the match Chris could not find the trebles and Lee clocked 74 for 21 darts and a 3-2 win. Chris 9 tons, Lee 11 tons plus a 180. 4-0 Hall Green.

Ian McFarlane (18.56) 3 Julian Harris (16.09) 0

Ian won’t forget the 1st leg of this game for a very long time. Having hit 100 & 140 to leave 68 after 18 darts, double trouble kicked in. It carried on even after Julian got down to join him until Ian finally found double 1 for 44 darts. Got to be his worst ever leg, yet he still won it! Great performance after that, business as usual out in 18 & 19 darts for 3-0. Ian 5 tons, Julian 2 tons. Hall Green 4-1 up.

Matt Gallett (22.76) 0 Rob Hawker (30.06) 3

Not much Matt could do in this one against ex-team mate Pikey. First leg, Pikey out in 16 darts (140, 41, 140, 140, 20, 20f). More of the same with another 16 dart game in leg 2 (83, 60, 100, 140, 98, 20f). The 3rd was much closer, Matt leaving 51 after 18, but Pikey taking out an 80 finish after back to back tons for 18 darts and a 3-0 win. Pikey the Hall Green MOM. Matt 2 tons, Rob 7 tons. Hall Green 5-1.

Mark Birch (26.17) 0 Bob Nixon (26.84) 3

A cracking game, and Birchy so unlucky not even getting a leg. Birchy with a 100 & 140 in the first missed tops for a 120 finish in 15 darts, only to see Bob take it in 16 darts having hit a 180, and just missed a 156 finish himself. Mark narrowly missed his shot for 78 in the 2nd and Bob duly closed out in 19 darts. Mark then left 12 after 18 darts in the 3rd only for Bob to clock 68 for a 21 dart leg and 3-0. Mark 5 tons, Bob 4 tons plus a 180. 6-1 Hall Green.

Mark Wild (22.13) 3 Steve Harding (21.49) 2

Wildy not at his best but ground out a win for us. Steve took the first against throw in 21 darts and it looked like more of the same for us on the night. Wildy hung in though and won an unspectacular but vital 2nd leg in 26 darts. The 3rd was better, Wildy clocking 74 for 21 darts and 2-1. Wildy then missed tops in the 4th leg, Steve stepped in and levelled in 22 darts. They say save the best for last and Wildy did. Mark sat on 114 and Steve on 111, Wildy took it out for 21 darts and a 3-2 win along with a very low averaging MOM award. Mark 6 tons, Steve 8 tons. Final score 6-2 to Hall Green.

A very low running average for us of just 20.69 against Hall Green’s 23.73.

They also beat us easily on tons, Hall Green 53+2 and Sutton 32. That said, with a bit of luck for Chris Turnbull and a better draw for Birchy this game could have been drawn.

One to forget for us though. We know we must play better than this at this level, and hopefully that starts next week.

Congratulations to Ian McFarlane on getting back into the County Squad for the Home match against Cambridgeshire on the first weekend of December. Mark Birch again plays in the B side.
Well done to Hall Green who kept their composure when we lost ours. There is always next year though!
