MATCH REPORT

Erdington 3 Sutton Sports 5

A great comeback from a 3-0 deficit to win this one. It was our first match of the season so we were going in cold so to speak. We also knew our opponents had already played two games guaranteed to sharpen you up in Coventry Bishopsgate and Leamington.

To add to that we had a new side made up of a combination of the Shard End / Sutton Coldfield teams of last season, so we still had to start from scratch in terms of who played. It was also a first run out for this seasons new shirts.

Results (Erdington names first):

Mark Archer (21.88) 3 Chris Turnbull (21.60) 1

Mark was early out of the blocks and first to a double. He took 5 to finish it in 23 though, and this almost let Chris in who missed tops for a 103 finish. The second leg was a great one for Chris on his Sutton debut, out in 16 darts (97, 95, 95, 140, 34, 40f) with Mark some way back. The 3rd leg followed the pattern of the first, with Mark down first, taking 7 darts at a double but clocking 1n 24 darts just after Chris had hit 106 to leave tops. The 4th leg had Mark in charge all the way with 3 tons and out in 20 darts for a 3-1 win. Mark 7 tons, Chris 4 tons. 1-0 Erdington.

Kev Smith (20.37) 3 Dane Vickers (17.72) 1

A slow start to the first before Dane went one up in 27 darts. It really should have been 2-0 as Dane missed 6 at a double before Kev took it at his first attempt for 28 darts to level. Kev kicked on from there with a good 3rd leg, out in 19 darts and took the 4th leg in 24 darts for 3-1 with Dane sat on 60. Kev 5 tons, Dane 2 tons. 2-0 Erdington.

John Morris Jr (27.18) 3 Paul Cumming (19.75) 1

When 'Young Spinner' is in this form he can be devastating. Paul had started well leaving 60 after 15 darts but both players struggled to find a double before Paul took it in 29 darts. John bounced back with an excellent 14 dart game (140, 100, 135, 90, 36f) to level it up. Another good leg gave John the lead in 15 darts (80, 180, 84, 81, 76f), and he went on to take the 4th impressively in 17 darts for a 3-1 win and the Erdington MOM. John 8 tons and a 180, Paul 3 tons. Erdington 3-0.

Stan Andrews (20.43) 0 Ian McFarlane (24.64) 3

Ian took a steady first leg against the throw in 23. Despite a maximum from Stan in the second leg, Ian increased his lead in 22 darts. In the 3rd Ian really raised the bar with a maximum himself and a 16 dart leg (121, 180, 40, 100, 20, 40f) for 3-0. Stan 6 tons and a 180, Ian 5 tons and a 180. Erdington 3-1 up.

Wayne Mynard (20.61) 2 Mark Birch (26.60) 3

Having left 81 after 9 darts (including a 180) Mark could be almost disappointed with a 17 dart first leg with Wayne back on 225. In the second Wayne made the advantage of throw count as both left doubles after 18 only for Wayne to take the leg in 21 darts. Mark re-established his lead in the 3rd, going out in 21 with Wayne back on 196. The 4th followed the pattern of the second with the scores very even all the way down and Wayne making advantage of throw count yet again for 22 darts and 2-2. Mark, however, made his experience count in the 5th kicking off with a maximum and out in 14 darts (180, 81, 95, 95, 50f) for a 3-2 win and taking the Sutton MOM against Wayne who was on debut for Erdington. Wayne 2 tons, Mark 7 tons and 2 x 180's. 3-2 Erdington.

John Frost (21.88) 1 Adam Gallett (23.15) 3

Two Shard end team-mates last season and it was Adam who took an edgy first leg in 25 darts with both players missing chances. John then levelled up in 18 darts for 1-1. John with advantage of throw hit 140 to leave 60 in the 3rd leg, but Adam coolly took out a 125 finish for 21 darts and a 2-1 lead. Adam followed that with scores of 140 & 125 in the 4th before clocking out 99 for a 3-1 win. John 4 tons, Adam 7 tons. 3-3 now the match score.

Tony Comerford (20.31) 1 Mark Wild (23.02) 3

Wildy kicked off with a steady 20 dart first leg with Tony back on 213. Wildy looked set for 2-0 but missed his chance and Tony mopped up 66 for 1-1 in 24 darts. The 3rd leg was very close with both having chances before Wildy re-took the lead in 22 darts. The 4th looked to be Mark's until he bust 98, Tony then had a chance to level but Wildy holed out in 23 darts for 3-1. Tony 3 tons, Mark 5 tons. 4-3 to Sutton.

Jim Collins (22.05) 1 Matt Gallett (25.49) 3

Both players capable of mixing it with the best this promised to be a great game. Matt took the first against throw in 18 darts. Both players missed doubles in the second before Jim levelled in 24 darts. Matt pulled out a great 15 dart leg against the throw in the 3rd (140, 84, 140, 47, 90f) to go 2-1 up. He then held throw in 21 to complete a 3-1 win securing the points for Sutton Sports. Jim 5 tons, Matt 6 tons. Final score 5-3 to Sutton Sports.

All in all a very good win against our local rivals who we know very well. It was good to see 4 of the 5 Sutton debutants winning on the night. It is always nice to get that first win under your belt for a new team.

A big thanks to Erdington our hosts, who we wish well for the remainder of the season. They have the nucleus of a very good side.

Next up its Leamington at home. Its always a game we look forward to, as these are the type of games you join Super league to play in.
