MATCH REPORT
Coventry Cherry Tree 6 Sutton Coldfield 2
After a 5
week break from Super League it was always going to be a tough one at Cov Cherry
who had inflicted our biggest defeat of the season on us at our place earlier in
the season with a 6-2 result. The return match ended in the same score with
Coventry that bit sharper on their doubles in most games.
Steve Giddings (25.79) 3 Chris Millward (24.30) 1
Steve was quick out of the blocks taking the first 2 legs in 15 & 19
darts. Milly took the 3rd leg in 20 darts, and had 3 darts at double 18 to level
up in the 4th leg, but missed letting in Steve for a 23 dart leg to win the
match 3-1. Steve 6 tons, Milly 7 tons. 1-0 Coventry.
Paul
Livingstone (22.19) 3 Dave Wallace (20.91) 2
All the first 4
legs went against throw in this one. Affro took the first with a 98 finish for
18 darts. Paul bounced back with a 100 finish in a 21 dart 2nd leg. The 3rd leg
saw both miss doubles before Affro took it in 28. The 4th leg went to Paul in 20
darts, and Paul then held his throw with a 22 dart decider. Paul 5 tons, Affro 3
tons. Coventry 2-0 up.
Dave Crossingham (22.37) 0 Dane
Vickers (23.12) 3
Dane showing how far he has come in just half
a season, having been beaten 3-0 by Dave in our first meeting he reversed the
result here. Dane went one up in 21 darts, and followed with 2 tons and a 140 in
the second leg which he also took in 21 darts. Dane held throw in the 3rd with a
23 dart leg for 3-0. A great win by the pup who continues to improve week on
week. Dave 4 tons, Dane 5 tons. Coventry 2-1 up.
Mark Carter
(22.08) 3 Paul Cumming (19.92) 2
Paul started well with back to
back 140's and winning in 17 darts against the throw. Paul then had 11 at a
double to go 2-0 up, but let Mark in for a 29 dart 2nd leg. Mark took advantage
of that reprieve starting the next leg with a maximum, going 2-1 up in 25 darts.
Paul levelled up in 22 including a 140 & 2 tons, but Mark, with the throw,
took the 5th leg in 19 darts. Mark 6 tons & a 180, Paul 7 tons. 3-1
Coventry.
Jimmy Hill (27.52) 2 Rob Hawker (26.15) 3
An excellent win for Sutton MOM Pikey against an impressive opponent we
had not seen before. Pikey went one up in 16 darts including 2 x 140's. Jimmy
levelled in 19 darts with Pikey sat on 54. Pikey won the 3rd in 17 darts, this
leg including 7 tons in all. The 4th was better still with Jimmy out in 13 darts
(81,121,141,143,16f). Pikey held his nerve in the decider out in 24 darts for a
3-2 win. Jimmy 11 tons, Pikey 9 tons. 3-2 Coventry.
Noel
Grant (26.84) 3 Mark Wild (25.17) 0
Noel is always a tough
opponent, and despite Wildy knocking in a 180 & a 140 in the first leg it
was Noel who took it in 20 darts. Noel took the second in 19 darts and the 3rd
in 17 for 3-0. Wildy doing little wrong on the night, and he will win a lot more
than he loses playing like he did. Noel 6 tons, Mark 4 tons and a 180. 4-2
Coventry.
Paul Deslandes (27.33) 3 John Kavanagh (22.19)

With a number of players missing, JK was forced to bring
forward the planned comeback date following the wrist injury, though it would
have took something a bit special to beat Paul, the Coventry MOM. JK missed 2 at
tops in the first before Paul took it in 22 darts. Paul won the 2nd in 18 darts
including a maximum, and clocking 75. The 3rd leg saw Paul clock 170 for 15
darts, with JK sat on 111. Paul 4 tons and a 180, JK 4 tons. Coventry 5-2 up.
Dave 'Bomber' Harris (25.47) 3 James Owen (24.14) 0
Bomber took the first two legs in 19 & 18 darts with James sat each
time on reasonable two dart finishes. In the 3rd James got down first scoring
well including a 140 & 135, but 8 missed darts at doubles let Bomber in for
a 22 dart game and a 3-0 win. Bomber 5 tons, James 4 tons. Final score Coventry
6 Sutton 2.
Running averages were Coventry 24.95, Sutton 23.24.
Tons were Coventry 47+2, Sutton 43+1.
The big plusses
for us, Pikey continuing his excellent winning run and Dane continues to improve
with every game.
A disappointing result, but this was certainly a strong
team in opposition. They will certainly be in the shake up at the end of the
season for a top two finish.
Coventry Cherry have now inflicted 2 of our
4 defeats this season on us, and next up is Coventry Railway at home next week,
who were one of the other 2 teams to beat us in the first half. This is a result
we must reverse if we want to keep within striking distance of the top 4.
