MATCH REPORT
Coventry Bishopgate 3 Sutton Coldfield 5
A return
to winning ways for Sutton, and I think that keeps us 5th going into the 2nd
half.
Will Roberts
(16.52) 0 Rob Hawker (24.64) 3
Always good to win the first so
why not send Pikey on early to demoralise the opposition. A 16 dart first leg
with his opponent sat on 300 set the tone. Will had chances to level in the 2nd,
before Pikey found double 4 for a disappointing 28 dart game. Normal service
resumed in leg 3, with Pikey out in 17 darts including a maximum for 3-0. Will 3
tons, Rob 6 tons and a 180. 1-0 Sutton.
Steve Berrill
(16.28) 3 Carl Perry (16.65) 1
Confidence still the key for
Carl, we know how he can play. Carl one up in 26, Steve levelling in 27 darts.
Both players missing several chances in a vital 3rd leg, eventually won by
Steve. Steve then out in 28 darts for 3-1. Steve 4 tons, Carl 4 tons. Match
score 1-1.
Steve Pinch (17.50) 0 Mark Kane (20.31)
3
Looked a cracker on paper, both players capable of big
averages. Kaney won the 1st comfortably in 22 darts. The 2nd saw doubles missed
both sides before Kaney nicked it against the darts in 27. Kaney then wrapped it
up in 25 darts for 3-0. Steve 2 tons, Kaney 5 tons. 2-1 Sutton.
Eric Simpson (22.07) 1 Dane Vickers (25.96) 3
Dane went one up in 24, then played a great 2nd leg which but for
finishing could have been 13 darts but ended 18 (140, 140, 83, 122, 0, 16f).
Both players started leg 3 with maximums, Eric finally taking a good leg in 16
darts. Dane, not to be out done started leg 4 with another 180, this time going
on to win in 19 darts and taking the MOM, but again missed doubles costing Dane
a possible monster average. Eric 4 tons and a 180, Dane 7 tons and 2 x 180's.
3-1 Sutton.
Kev Wragg (20.33) 2 Dave Wallace (20.25)
3
Dave one up in 24 darts, low scoring until he clocked 108 for
the leg. The 2nd saw Kev level in 21 darts. Kev took the 3rd in 25, but Dave
then found his range with a much improved 17 dart 4th leg. A nervy 5th leg saw
Dave take it after both had missed chances in 27 for a 3-2 win. Kev 7 tons, Dave
6. 4-1 Sutton.
Steve Rogers (23.19) 3 Paul Cumming (21.70)
2
Paul took out an 84 finish against the darts in a 23 dart 1st
leg. Missed doubles cost him in the 2nd, and Steve took advantage winning in 27.
Steve ahead in the 3rd in 23, before Paul hit back in 20 for 2-2. Steve saved
his best till last, though. A 14 dart 5th leg with the darts giving Paul little
chance. Steve 9 tons, Paul 5 tons. 4-2 Sutton.
John Sanders
(24.15) 1 Chris Millward (23.76) 3
Milly starting with a
maximum but still pushed all the way in a close 1st leg, winning in 23 with John
on a double. The second saw John record a maximum in what could have been a 14
dart leg, but missed doubles let in Milly for 21 darts and 2-0. 3 tons for Milly
in leg 3, but a great reply from John who took it in 17 darts. Milly got a start
in leg 4 with 140, 81, 81 and held his advantage taking out 56 for 21 darts and
a 3-1 win. John 8 tons and a 180, Milly 7 tons and a 180. 5-2 Sutton.
Josh Jones (23.76) 3 Mark Wild (25.14) 2
A
very good opening leg saw both players under 100 after 15. Josh threw first
taking out 50 for 1-0. Wildy levelled in 21 for 1-1. The 3rd leg would always be
vital and both players missed several darts at doubles before Josh took it in
25. Wildy came back in excellent fashion in 15 darts for 2-2 (140, 45, 140, 100,
76f). Leg 5 was dart for dart, Josh on 60 after 18, Wildy on 58. Again the
advantage of throw was vital with Josh taking the 60 in 3 darts for 3-2 and the
Coventry MOM. Josh 6 tons, Wildy 10 tons.
Final score Coventry
Bishopgate 3 Sutton Coldfield 5.
Tons scored were: Coventry
Bishopgate 43+2, Sutton 50+4.
Running averages: Bishopgate 20.48, Sutton
22.30.
Biggest plus on the night was that Dane is really now finding his
super league feet, and getting his first MOM. Pikey says you can't have any more
this season though!
Also Affro back to winning ways and Milly continues
to take on some of the best players in this league and beat them. He must be
attracting the attention of County selectors soon. Wildy unlucky again but he
will take heart from another good performance including 10 tons and a 15 dart
game.
It leaves our halfway record as 5th place, having played 11
won 3, drawn 5, lost 3. Too many draws and we must convert those to wins in the
2nd half. When you also consider the 3 defeats include losses to Coventry
Railway and Rugby who (and no disrespect intended) would not expect to be top 4
sides, with better results in those games we could have been challenging for 3rd
or 4th again. No reason why this improvement can't happen now the newer players
are settling in.
