MATCH REPORT

Sutton Sports 7 Bishopsgate 1

A fourth straight league win and only one defeat in 8 now, though this was a very depleted Bishopsgate side. That said, credit still goes to those players who played the competitive games on the night, who did exactly what was required. Bishopsgate could only muster 5 players and with the match score at 4-1 after the five games the last three players earned byes and had just averages to play for.

Mark Wild (20.04) 3 Steve Crowther (16.81) 0

Wildy started well with scores of 140, 122 & 100 in the first leg, but it took 10 darts to finish before Wildy went one up in 28 darts. A better finish to the second leg, where Mark hit back-to-back tons and chipped out 76 for a 21 dart leg to lead 2-0. Wildy couldn’t find the big scores in the third other than a 140, but took it in 26 darts for 3-0. Steve had chances himself to win both the 1st and 3rd legs, but overall Wildy the deserved winner. Mark 6 tons, Steve 1 ton. 1-0 Sutton.

Matt Gallett (24.18) 3 Josh Jones (24.49) 2

A cracking game between the two County youth lads. Matt took the first in 16 darts with 4 ton plus scores (100, 130, 11, 100, 140, 40f), but even then Josh had left tops after 15 himself. Matt hit a 135 in the 2nd but heavier scoring from Josh with 2 tons and 2 further 90+ scores saw him level in 18 darts. Matt started with a ton in the third but a maximum from Josh saw him down first. Both missed several chances before Josh took the leg in 24 darts. Josh started with back-to back 140’s in the 4th leg, but a 140 & 2 x 90+ scores kept Matt in touch. Josh had several darts to finish before Matt levelled up at 2-2 in 23 darts. It really went dart for dart in the decider, Matt started 140, Josh with 139. Both players left 104 after 15 darts but Matt with advantage of throw clocked the 104 for a 3-2 win in 18 darts. Matt 9 tons, Josh 8 tons and a 180. Sutton 2-0 up.

Chris Millward (23.91) 2 Steve Hine (25.04) 3

Milly doing nothing wrong in the first starting 100, 140 and leaving tops after 15. Steve though had advantage of throw and clocked 87 for 18 darts and a 1-0 lead. An even 2nd leg saw Milly with first shot to finish and he took it in 24 darts for 1-1. Steve started 140, 140 in the 3rd leg and with advantage of throw he took out 56 for an 18 dart game to lead 2-1. Steve hit scores of 100 & 113 in the fourth leg but a timely 140 kept Milly in it and he levelled in 24 darts. A ton and three other scores over 80 left Milly on 28 after 18 darts but Steve with advantage of throw hit scores of 100, 123 then 54 in 2 darts to take it in 20 darts and claim the Bishopsgate MOM with a 3-2 win. Chris 5 tons, Steve 7 tons. 2-1 Sutton.

Ian McFarlane (25.23) 3 Martin Brown (25.54) 2

It seemed advantage Martin when he hit a 137 to leave 136, with Ian on 182. However, a 130 followed by a 52 finish saw Ian 1-0 up in 21 darts. Ian hit scores of 139 and 100 to leave 100 after 15 darts. However, Martin with scores of 100 & 137 himself was first to the double and out in 16 darts for 1-1. A 140 and 3 x 80+ scores put Martin ahead in the third but Ian hung in with steady scoring and clocked 84 for a 21-dart leg to lead 2-1. Ian looked home & hosed in the fourth with successive scores of 140, 121, & 100 to leave 96 after 12, but Martin with 2 x tons himself took out 66 to level in 20 darts. The 5th leg was close until successive tons gave Ian a little daylight before he took 48 out in 2 for a 20-dart leg and a 3-2 win. Ian 8 tons, Martin 6 tons. 3-1 Sutton.

Mark Birch (25.83) 3 Steve Sharpe (24.19) 1

Birchy started with 3 straight tons and was out in 19 darts for a 1-0 lead. A 140 and 3 x 80+ scores in the second saw him go 2-0 up in 20 darts. However, despite a 140 for Mark in the 3rd leg, Steve played the leg of the night out in 15 darts (42, 83, 121, 137, 118f) to reduce the arrears to 2-1. Steve then hit scores of 100, 140 & 121 in the fourth leg, but Birchy responding with 140 & 100 forced home his advantage of throw to take the leg in 19 darts for a 3-1 win and the Sutton MOM. Mark 7 tons, Steve 8 tons. Sutton 4-1.

The next 3 players got wins anyway via the byes, but just had to play 3 legs each (regardless of result) to gain their match averages.

John Kavanagh (22.77) 3 No Player (Chris Millward Jnr) 0

JK ahead in the first leg, but had 5 at a double before taking it in 26 darts. The second leg was better with JK hitting 2 tons & two 80+ scores to go 2-0 up in 20 darts. A 123 & 2 x 95’s for JK in the 3rd, for another 20 dart leg to take the 3rd leg also.

Chris Turnbull (23.98) 2 No Player (Chris Millward Snr) 1

Scores of 137 & 134 from Chris in the first but missed 3 at tops to take it. However, Milly as the opponent did his job for Chris in finishing the leg off quickly. Two tons in the second leg as Chris levelled it up in 23 darts. The 3rd leg saw Chris hit scores of 134 & 171 before taking out 40 in 2 for an impressive 17-dart leg.

Dane Vickers (19.47) 2 No Player (Barrie Linnecor) 1

Dane hit 100 & 3 x 80+ scores in the first, but missed several at a double. Barry did his job and finished it in 25 darts. A better 2nd leg from Dane with a 140 & 100 and out in 21 darts. Two more tons in the 3rd but disappointing scores elsewhere saw Dane eventually take it in 29 darts.

The match result therefore ended 7-1, and with one to play it really now looks like a head- to-head between Rugby and ourselves for 5th place. In the final matches we go to Bartley Green, whilst Rugby go to Bishopsgate.

Whatever happens we have had a great second half of the season, winning 5 and drawing 2 of the last 8, with only that defeat at the hands of Champions Leamington spoiling that excellent run.

Lets hope for one more big result at Bartley Green, who lets remember beat us at our place just prior to those last 8 games.
